So after sweating in the Florida heat and a lot of patience to remove and clean the emblems, I was able to save some money and PlastiDip them instead of buying the blacked out ones. Also did the grille. One suggestion I have is not to waste your time masking the grille if you're going black, just remove it and spray it.
Getting the rims blacked out next week at the dealer (not using PlastiDip on rims).
I find this rather funny as when got the trail hawk, the wife was disappointed because it came with the blacked out grill ... and wished it had the chrome ones. Same with the Cherokee name on the doors.
I'd love to see a few more pics, especially the side from a little more distance. I have a white limited that I've been debating plasti dipping the emblems.
That looks very nice. I did the same thing on my sisters limited and love it. But I did not remove the emblems or grill. just wondering why are you not wanting to dip the wheels?
I got the dealer to agree to do the rims when I bought my car and I wanted a professional job on the rims since I had never done it myself before the emblems
Thanks! To get the letters off I used fishing line to cut through the glue between the letters and the car, and then used glue I bought from AutoZone to reattach them.
They did it for free, I negotiated that into my deal. I'll take close ups and post them later. I'm not sure exactly how they painted them, but it's not PlastiDip
As I have done with my previous Jeep's interior (pictured below), I will also do some paint mods on my Trailhawk. As in, I will redo/paint the exterior badges and I'll recce the interior for other paint mods. More to follow....
@TBEORNH Nice interior, would love to see more. @darko4 You took off the letters to dip them?? I just rubbed the overspray off with my fingers after 7 coats and just taped off a smaller box. Was pretty quick.
Looks good Darko. I'm in the process of doing mine as well. I'm sure this is a dumb quesiton, but how do you take the grille off? I've searched some other threads but haven't found much. Thanks!
Yeah each insert has 2 nuts that you loosen up. Just open the hood and you'll see them. Pretty easy, they just pop right out. Just don't over tighten them, they can crack easily.
my neighbor has a flat pink plastidipped mustang. it was done when new in 2009 and still looks great today. entire car is dipped, except the non painted parts. I think there are different qualities of dip. then theres the # of coats.
question for you plasti-dip ppl. last week or so, I've been experimenting with spray on rubber sealant, like flex-seal you see on TV, but a diff. brand. was looking for some brush on stuff too but didn't see any at the hardware store so wound up also using some liquid tape, that black goo you use to insulate wiring sometimes. my question: is plasti dip ever used for non-cosmetic purposes? like sealing cracks to prevent water seepage or insulate wiring?
