Speaker Upgrade For Opt. Alpine System ?

Hi Everyone,

After years of listening music with aftermarket systems in my previous cars, the optional amplified 9 speakers system in my Trailhawk was mandatory... I though it would be enough but after a few weeks, to be honest I'm kinda disapointed with the sub's performance and the overall speakers response... but don't get me wrong here, it's not a bad system... I guess it's just not up to my expectations...

That said, while I wanna keep the head unit as it is, I'm thinking about replacing the 9 speakers and sub with some aftermarket products. I know the locations of each of the speakers but was wondering if someone already did this around here... ?

For the 9 speakers system, I think there's a set of "component" speakers in the front since there's nothing but bass out of the front door speakers... correct ? For the rear doors, they sound like standard 6x9 speakers...

Anyone know the size of the rear pillar speakers ? Are they standard 3.5" that we can easily replaced ? What about the Sub, anyone managed to replace it with a better one ?

I don't wanna mess with the wires or doing any modification to my Trailhawk, I just plan to remove the factory speakers and install aftermarket units of the same size.

Thanks for your input, any advice will be much appreciated.

Regards,

I feel exactly the way that you do. The first thing I do with any new vehicle is swap out the sound. However, the 9 speaker system in my Trailhawk is the best sound Factory System I have ever heard, especially when the source allows for surround sound. I may change my tune over time, but I'm going to give this system a chance to prove itself to me. With the old MyGigs, just switching to the Mopar/Kicker upgrade speakers improved the sound 100%. I'm having search problems on eBay because when I enter Cherokee, I get Grand Cherokee as well. Very frustrating.

I spent an hour at my Dealer yesterday. The Accessory Catalog shows Kicker upgrade speakers for the Cherokee. For the 9 speaker system, the parts system shows Kicker 77KICK42 for the front. It consists of two 6x9 1-way speakers for mid base, and 3 2-way speakers for the dash. For the 6 speaker system front, the part system shows 77KICK28AB which consists of the same 6x9 1 way mid bass speakers for the doors, but includes 2 1" dome tweeters for the dash. The rear kit for the 9 speaker system only comes with the same 6x9 mid base speakers for the doors, but nothing for the rear pillars. So, I went ahead and ordered 77KICK42 and 77KICK28AB. I'll install the 2 1"dome tweeters in each corner of the dash, and a 2-way in the center. This will leave me 2 2-ways for the rear pillars. The 4 6x9 mid bass will go in the doors. I have installed the Mopar/Kicker upgrades 3 of my previous vehicles and as I mentioned in the above post; they improve the sound quality 100%. I'm curious to see how the sound improves with my 9 speaker system, as it already sounds great for a factory system. I found both of these sets on eBay and my Dealer always matches eBay pricing. I just wanted to make sure that I was getting the right kits. I just find it odd that they don't make a set of speakers for the rear pillars. Kicker does make an 8" sub, so this may come later. It is not a Mopar/Kicker upgrade.

I have always upgraded my jeep speakers to the drop-in Mopar/Kicker speaker systems, leaving everything else OEM.

Here are the part #'s I used in both my and my girlfriends 2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited w/ OEM Alpine system:

77Kicker42 - 2 6x9 woofers for doors and 3 3.5" coax for the dash
77Kicker41 - 2 6x9 coax for rear doors
77Kicker25AB - 2 3.5" coax for the rear pillars
and 1 8" Pioneer TS-SW2002D2 - fits sub enclosure perfectly w/Metra 72-6514 speaker adapters.

2 things I noticed:
-the xover for the front door speakers are set way too high and the sub could use some more power...only solution here is to add amps w/xover's.

I can honestly say it sounds 100% better then the OEM Alpine system...without adding amps.

Funny, my parts guy at the Dealer didn't find 77KICK25AB in his parts list. I put Alpine Tweeters in the dash of my Journey, and the highs were amazing, compared with the factory speakers. But, the Journey had a larger, more angled windshield for the notes to bounce from. I am hoping for the same results with the Kicker Dome Tweeters. From the pictures on eBay, the tweeter crossovers are attached to the back of the frame. Also, using just one 2-way speaker in the center of the dash may improve the sound of the Surround Sound.

Did you have to remove the rear panel to get to the sub, or is it like the rear pillar speakers where the grill just pops off?

77Kicker25AB is for the Jeep Patriot/Compass but my dealer agreed to let me do a dry run and it fit...matches the front dash kickers perfectly.

You need to remove the inside rear qtr panel to get to the sub....it is an involved process.

I got the instructions for the sub install somewhere in this forum.

That's why! He was looking just for the Cherokee! Thanks for the update. My speakers ship directly from Kicker. I'll report back when I get them installed.
