I got roasted yesterday

Yup.... sad sad sad.... day; yesterday!!

I was heading home from work and caught up to my wife @ the next stop light.

She has the 2014 Edge AWD (v6) and mine is the 2014 Cherokee 4x4 w/ the V6.

I put Jeep into sport mode at the light. Told my wife lets see who wins. (keep in mind,,,, safe open country road after this light) and as the light goes green we both accelerate.

I had the pull and was ahead of her, maybe 10' in length to about 65 mph.... and thats where the jeep gone the ughhhh as Her Edge pulled hard and I lost my set of balls about 2 car lengths her being ahead.

It was sad and I really though this jeep was much more peppy than the edge. Now the that truth comes out and also I get laughed @ my wife all the way to the casa.

So that is my roast of the day.

**Note: no AC / heat was on during the race between us

Bah... the 2014 Edge has 14 more HP than the Cherokee, and only 100lbs more curb weight.

Found these detailed specs for both, including some performance numbers (go to the bottom) :

2014 V6 Edge : http://www.automobile-catalog.com/ca...6_sel_awd.html
2014 V6 Cherokee : http://www.automobile-catalog.com/ca...lhawk_4x4.html

1/4 mile times are identical. Edge gets to 1Km 0.3 seconds sooner (1Km = 5/8 mile). And the Edge gets to 100mph 1 second sooner.

1 second to 100mph can be compensated with a some... balls LOL.

Pretty evenly matched if you ask me.

Edit to add : if there is ever a next time, try and stay in Auto... I have a feeling Sport may hinder your ability to drag race on dry pavement : remember... Sport mode engages 4WD, which you don't want (well, just on take-off, no longer...)

Hey Mark

I been looking at the specs and I just nodded my head. I also don't have a reason to BS about it also. I am telling the honest truth.

By looking at the links, it does seem the edge is overall still faster vehicle. I do want to say one thing for the *PLUS* on my jeep. I get way heck better MPG than her Edge. Edge gets 20.5 mpg in city. Jeep get at 22 mpg in city. On highway.... forget about the the Jeep squashes the Edge on mpg as I done a full load family trip and keep highway speeds up to 75-80 I was getting 28 mpg.

As for the Sport mode, I thought it revs the rpm higher making harder shift points. I always thought or to me that auto mode was little slower.

I was thinking a few things about this race w/ my wife and for one, I thought that maybe I should of been in sport mode prior to stopping to make sure its fully engaged into sport mode than I did when I stopped at put it into sport mode.

Either way, I am up for the challenge against her again. So I will keep it in auto mode.

Also this is sad and I totally forgot to mention..... she had few loads of grocery bags in her edge. lol

I'll post up again. hehehehe

@BlueOrbs, did you forget that women always have something to prove? They are fierce and fearless in competition. Next time, put her in the Cherokee and you in the Edge; she will still beat you.

That was a relief!!
I thought that story was the lead in to "Then my transmission went into limp mode and the service 4WD message came up".
Actually you would have beat her if you left it in "auto" mode.
But again just glad the story had a happy ending. That is your wife won!

You are all forgetting that on a launch, you want more power to the rear wheels for the "squat", which is why sport mode is 40/60. He likely would have gotten wheel spin in Auto mode, assuming ambient temperature was over 40 degrees and he wasn't in 4WD already.

Unless there's some kind of loose substrate on the road, I've never gotten wheel spin accelerating in a straight line. Am I doing something wrong?

Not forgetting a thing. Auto mode won't allow much wheelspin, and a little chirp won't hurt your launch, it might even startle your opponent enough to give you the psychological edge (pun intended).

You don't want 4WD in a drag race if you can do without, and Auto mode prevents hurtful wheelspin. After launch, you want all the available ponies to work for you and sending power to 2 extra wheels is counterproductive.

Sport mode elevates shift points everywhere below WOT (wide open throttle), so when you have your foot down, you'll be revving up to the sweet spot in Auto mode, Sport not needed.

Third gear in the KL is way too tall for a long drag race.

1st and 2nd are great, but the gap in 3rd is WAY too far and why she climbed all over you on the stretch.

I like our Jeeps, but Ford is far superior when it comes to power-train and power utilization.
