So I've had my Jeep a little over six months and I've done quite a bit to it in that time so I thought I would try to pool everything so far into a timeline of sorts of what I've done.
So here it is bone stock the way it came home but after I completed detailing it.
Then I picked up an Auxbeam 20" lightbar and needed someplace to attach it so I bought the MicTuning license plate lightbar mount. I also read a post about a fire extinguisher holder so I picked one up to get mine out of the cubby in the back. I wasn't real happy with the tow hook antenna mount so fabbed one up to mount to the lightbar mount.
Next came the tires. Wanted a little more clearance and some better looking tires to boot. After a lot of research on here (I think I read all of the tire posts) I decided on the BFG KO2's.
The one thing I really didn't like since I bought it was the wheels, and now they really didn't look right at all to me. So some more research and found Dupli-Color to match the paint. Many hours of prep, primer, paint, clearcoat later and here is the result.
Which brings us up to today. Waiting on the RRO Super Sliders to get shipped to me for install (hopefully before I leave for Easter Jeep Safari) and then back to saving for the next additions. Planning on the winch setup and then a Gobi roof rack system. After that I may end up going with the lift system from RRO since it will probably be close to 40k miles and would just as soon upgrade the shocks and struts as replace them with stock. I think I want to paint the calipers red too. Was going to do this today but weather has not been cooperating too mush. The winds yesterday were 35 with gusts near 60. Just slightly more than normal for around here.
So I've been debating with myself about how I wanted to do the switches. I picked up the MicTuning wiring kit knowing that it would probably be temporary. The little round switch looks and feels pretty nice and works well. I initially thought about adding it to the door panel below the fuel door release button but wasn't just really happy with the idea. Then thought about overhead in the sunglasses holder but didn't really like that either. So looking around here and elsewhere on the web thought about picking up the SPod system or just pick up MFC's kit with the console mounting. It looks like a really well thought out and designed system but with a vehicle that is so high tech I didn't really want the rocker switches. They look good but just not for me in this rig. So now looking at the SPod SE but wow do they like it. A little more searching and found the SwitchPros SP-8100 switch panel. Watched videos and read lots of reviews and besides the backlight not being the color I really want I think it will work perfect. The size of it should fit in front of the media center without much issue. Once i get it installed I'll take some pics for your enjoyment
I will get some in the morning to post once it gets light enough. It is just a 2" piece of flat steel that I drilled mounting holes that line up with the holes on top of the license mount. A couple of @45 degree bends and another hole for the antenna to mount through. It's not grounded but when I tried to the SWR went of the meter. So without I am able to get just under 2 top and bottom and about 1 at 20.
Looks great..wheels look better solid black. What color Duplicolor did you go with and how did you prep the wheels for painting? Already thinking about painting mine black..
I used
Dupli-Color BCC0427 Brilliant Black
Exact match for our black paint (multi color flakes)
I think it is for paint code APX or SPX. I used a scotch bright pad to rough then up and get any residuals off of the wheels followed by alcohol wipes to make sure they were clean. Two coats of primer with three coats of paint and two coats of clear. At least 15 minutes between each coat.
So the weather finally cooperated enough for me to get the SwitchPros switchpod installed. I also added some rock lights but have to wait until I get the sliders installed before I can add the rest. Still a little light out so hard to get the real effect but I think they look pretty good.
So I finally received my RRO Super Sliders on Wednesday and then Friday the cover panels came in. Today I received my MFC A-Pillar mounts. Gonna be a busy weekend but looks like the weather is going to cooperate.
Finished up getting the pinch welds drilled this morning. All bolts have been installed minus a couple where the pinch seam was too short to meet up with the sliders. Luckily only one on each side. The top looks a little bare
When I finished installing the sliders I just wasn't up to installing the rest of the rock lights but I will get to it as soon as the weather clears up again, hopefully this next weekend will be good again.
