After seeing a few folks post threads for their Cherokee experiences, and liking that idea, I decided to start my own. So, here goes...
I'm a lady in my forties, always loved Jeep and wanted a CJ since I was about six. Finally bought one in 2008 when I got my 1979 CJ5 Renegade. It took me a while to find it because I really wanted an orange one (go figure, right?). It's not my daily driver though, since I live in the AZ desert and it doesn't have A/C yet, plus, it's not the safest thing to be doing the daily grind in through these city streets where half the other drivers don't seem to be too observant of others around them.
I've been driving a 2004 Mazda 6 since 2006 and it was the newest car I've ever owned. Great car, super reliable, no problems, other than it seems to be a "hit me" magnet. It's been hit a few times, always by other people (I'm a very careful driver, no tickets in almost 20 years). Also, since I'm getting a little older, getting in and out of that low car is getting to be a pain (I have some lower back and knee issues), so I started looking around for something new.
Having rebuilt a couple of motors, done all my own maintenance on my vehicles for the past 30 years, and being very picky when it comes to mechanical things (especially cars) I spent a lot of time researching "SUVs" looking for just the right one. I looked at the Trailhawk early in my quest, and was almost set on the Volvo XC60, but after closer inspection, and then seeing some YT videos on the 'hawk, my mind was set. I just needed to go drive one to be sure.
On 2/8/14 I test drove one with the configuration I was after but it wasn't Mango Tango orange. I decided I will never again buy a silver, white, or black vehicle as it seems everyone owns one. I liked the Anvil color, until I saw Mango Tango, and that was what sealed it for me. The test drive was great, and aside from the salesman trying to pull my leg on a couple of things, it was a good experience, so I took the plunge and ordered my first-ever brand new vehicle.
While waiting for my sweet new baby to arrive, I kept watching YT videos of Trailhawk tests, the media drives, factory vids, and whatnot to satiate my excitement. During a search I stumbled on this website and have been grateful to all the guys and gals here who have lent their thoughts and helpful advice, not to mention, there's a lot of entertainment to be had!
One of the things I really wish I had is a garage to park my new 'hawk in. But alas, I own a nice restored 1935 house that doesn't have a garage. Not long ago I had a new fence put in, and just this weekend I finally installed an automatic gate opener for the gate. In typical fashion, I did the full install of the opener myself (I didn't build the fence or gate though). It took me two days to install it, but it works great! It's a USAutomatic 300S/D in case you're interested. Here's a shot of the gate I took today:
I plan to do some pretty detailed documentation of my new 'hawk and to post lots of pictures here of her. I'd like to share videos too. I haven't seen many pics or vids that get into the real nuts and bolts (up close) yet so I'd like to share that as I can. I also enjoy chronicling things. So I hope you guys enjoy my thread. Maybe it will help others out who are considering a Cherokee or specifically a Trailhawk.
As of today, 3/3/14 I have not heard anything from the dealer or seen any changes in the VOTS. Dealer told me the estimated ship date was 3/4 but considering that's tomorrow I don't see that happening. My guess is that they're waiting to do a batch of Mango Tango paint or something, but I'm just grasping at straws. I hope to see some changes in VOTS this week.
Thanks for reading and I look forward to sharing my adventure with you!
