Sunroof rattle squeak

I have 7400 mile on my Limited. Recently an irritating squeak hasdeveloped coming from the sunroof. It is coming from the very center where the two pains meet. It’s not as bad when tilted open but then I get another rattleright above the driver side of the sunroof when I tilt it open. Has anyone elsehad sunroof noise issues? I am going to make an appointment with my dealer soon. Before I do I wanted to see in anyone had a fix first, or if anyone has had any dealer success with a fix.

I have had the same problem on my 2015 Trailhawk. First time it was pretty loud at about 10K mi. I took it in and they had my car for 4 days. Took the entire roof apart. Liner and all. All new seals and lubricant. While they had it apart, they found there were some loose bolts or screws as well as some MISSING rivets. I would have to read the paperwork again to be exact about how they fixed it. Either way, when I got my car back there was finger grease marks on the liner.... and after about two weeks it has started again, but only when driven over bumpy roads or turning on incline, decline. Haven't made an appt. to take it back in because when I was there the last time they told me Chrysler was developing a new sealant or lubricant to fix the problem. Also when they had it the last time they did a "software update" on the transmission. I wish they wouldn't have. Now there is a hesitation after coming to a short stop. Will be taking it back in soon.

Has anyone heard if Chrysler actually released the lubricant/fix for the sunroof issue? I have the same problem, but mine is a rebuilt, so no warranty to pay for taking it to the dealer. I'm hoping I can find a YouTube video for how to apply the lubricant. Thanks to everyone for posting.

I used something to coat the sun roof seals last year that someone on this forum had recommended. It is called" Gummi Pflege Stift " rubber care. You can find it on Amazon. It comes in a small stick like a deodorant does. I just opened the roof and rubbed it on any part of the rubber seal that I could get at. I was getting the creaking noise not a rattle from the roof. That did the trick for me and the noise has been gone since. I think the hot weather has some kind of effect on the rubber gaskets. I started to have the problem last summer.

I have a 2016 Cherokee that has developed a moon roof squeak. Like so many others who have explained this issue, it seems to be coming from the rear passenger area. I can push on the roof lining/molding gently and reproduce the sound, and I can push on the corner of the rear roof glass panel and reproduce the sound. I have had the Jeep into the dealership 3 times for this issue, it is currently in the dealership today. I will try to come back and let everyone know what fixes this, (if anything). Dealership has been very friendly, however, they have not been able to resolve the issue.

Hi Mici0291--there is a recent STAR case that might be addressing the issue you're having with the squeak. If you want to PM your VIN, I can call the dealership and see if they've found it/if it would be applicable to your vehicle.

My 2016 trail hawk had the sunroof seals replaced which didn't resolve the knocking noise, what I did was clean and lubricate the metal front piece of the rear glass where the front glass seal butts up to, I used DuPont rubber care and after one drive it was silent. I'm going to order and try out a 3m automotive anti friction tape for a more permanent solution if this doesn't last.

Second I also have what sounds like the headliner coming loose noise one the inside of the Jeep gets warm enough from having the heater on, so I'm going to find a solution to that as well without taking anything apart or affecting anything else. Dealer visits also worry me.

Alright, my solution to this didn't last, dealer ended up replacing my entire sunroof and frame. So far so good, but I haven't used the shade or moved the glass since. Honestly I'm nervous to even move the sunroof with the possibility of the knocking coming back. I'll update if the situation changes.

Now that you mention this, I'm wondering if the squeaking sound in mine is coming from the sunroof. I always hear a rattling sound coming from what i thought was the side trimming but now I'm not sure! Squeaking/rattling noises seem to be a common issue with this jeep unfortunately.

my veh has been in 15 times or so for issues and i always tac this on with it and its never been fixed... I've tried the lubricants people have suggested and have had a star case on it... went away for a week and came back... I've had sunroofs before that never made a sound

I had the same problem occur twice in a year for more than 2 years, and I believe it is due to the weather changes, I take it to the dealer, they lubricate the seals (especially the rear panel rear section) and the problem disappears for around 6 months before reappears.

Okay! After reading all of these horror stories about dealerships, I came to the conclusion I need to take care of these noises myself, So thank you for this post! I have two areas of noise... The front sunroof clunks and shifts, on the right side I believe... the whole loosening and shifting thing will be my attempt to fix that noise.... I have the "creaking" sound along the left side of the rear moon roof piece as well.... when you said you lubricated all the seals with the aerospace lube, you meant the outside seal correct?? I have been doing that for months now, it usually works at taking away the "creak" for a while, but I will use the stuff you mentioned instead of the silicone lube I have been using. I love this vehicle, but it has gotten cold here now and the two areas of noise are driving me insane, making my jeep hard to love... I have printed your post off and will attempt these fixes asap...

I love my dealer... they have always fixed the issue 1st time and have yet to give me a hard time or mess anything up. They are quick too! Faricy Boys in Colorado Springs is great!

I, too, have developed an irritating squeak. I never noticed it until I folded the rear seats to haul something. Now the seats are up, and the squeak started. It sounds like the seat vibrating on its latch. Now, after reading this, I'll fool with the sunroof. But, I only hear it in my right ear, and it sounds as if it is coming from behind me.

Sorry for not coming back sooner. The dealership ordered an entire new interior head liner/panel. I also believe I may have had one cracked mounting bracket. The new head liner was installed, and all the mounting points were checked/tightened/repaired. It has been over 3 months, and I do not have any sound coming from the roof. Again, the local Jeep dealership was extremely professional during this entire time. They stuck with the problem until it was resolved. Hope this helps someone else.
