Old Coast Road

Has anyone been up the old coast road in Big Sur? Planning on making the trip in a few weeks and was wondering the best way to run it. South to North or North to South.

Are you referring to the original dirt road, or Highway One? I haven't been on the old CR for years, but I think it would be perfect for the Cherokee- TH or not! Couldn't say which direction is best- maybe depends if you want to climb up or down… and Hwy One is great either way, but IMHO the scenery is more dramatic heading south.
Enjoy!

Thanks for bringing this up. I didn't know about this road until I saw this post. It is on my to-do list now. I'd go from north to south, and take CA-1 back to the Bay Area.

Garage
North to south, lunch at the River Inn and then South to North

Hwy1 is too full of slow tourists to mess with. If you're gonna go slow, may as well do it in the dirt.

River Inn is a good suggestion! Or Nepenthe or Ventana where you can sit on the terrace with a view to die for. Sounds like a great day!
