This video cracks me up. Gives you a really good idea of what you're dealing with too. Don't take the wife! ...unless she's as crazy as you are.

The intention is to tackle it sometime in September although not formal plans have been set yet. I'll be putting an invite out to anyone who wishes to join us especially since I would not tackle this alone. I do have a couple of TH's that have expressed an interest in a team effort.

I was inspired by a video of a stock Subaru that claims to have done this run more than once, so I figure a TH shouldn't have any problems with it's clearance and 4WD options.

Please let me know if and when you plan to drive it especially if the Sept time frame is anywhere close.
Was tempted for a minute, but I think I'll pass. If I happened to die doing something stupid like this, my new wife would find a way to revive me just so she could kill me again.

Don't want to risk jacking up my daily driver on something like this either. However, if a meetup works out, maybe I can ride up to the top with someone and mountain bike down. I'd ride the sh*t outta that on a mountain bike.

Mosquito Pass is another great option. Still some really amazing high country views, but a lot less pucker factor and definitely doable in a TH without any damage. High end rating of 4. I'd definitely recommend doing this one first, even if you do plan on doing Black Bear.

I would love to try some of these this summer. Give me a good excuse to take a week off of work.... on yeah, and see some family.

But take the trails on the way!

Black Bear Pass, as well as a number of other high-country Jeep trails, is one that people do so they can say they've done it -- as distinct from other off-highway challenges that actually get you somewhere that you can't get to otherwise -- although the view of the Telluride Valley is quite something. In that long video that Biz linked (post 21), there's a parked tourist sightseeing Jeep at the first switchback, which shows that it's all about the driver, not the vehicle. HPH

I have had and wheeled both (stock 05 Wrangler and Trailhawk) As bad a$$ as I think the Trailhawk is, I still think the articulation and clearance push a stock Wrangler ahead. The locker will certainly help push the Hawk in to places the Wrangler will go but perhaps at the sacrifice of body damage due to lack of clearance. That's just my humble opinion.
But if you decide to do it make sure you post lots of video!!! Don't let anyone talk common sense into you. That's what half of wheeling is about;-)

Going to be in Ouray June 15-19 with a Harley CVO group and they will be renting Jeeps for an outing on one of the days. I'll be in Moab for a couple days before that though. Might as well go it like this.

Granite/black, 3.2 V6, Customer Preferred Package, Trailer Tow Group, Leather Interior Group, Black Hood Decal, Single Remote CD Player, Lifetime Warranty

Thinking about this trail on a run to Moab as a "on the way" trip next year. Have to sneak vacation by the boss tho. Date/time still undecided.

Off topic, but where did you find your chief emblem? I would like one in black.
