Join us for some off-roading fun. We will meet at the off road park and head out onto the trails around 9:00 AM. We will have a lunch break around noon (Bring a picnic lunch). After lunch you can choose to continue on the trails or go home.
A/T tires are recommended. There are sharp rocks and some water crossings that you would not want to get stuck in.
You will need a current Texas OHV sticker (2014) that you can pick up at most ATV shops (Grapevine Kawasaki, for example). The sticker is $16 and is good until August. Entry is $25 cash only.
We will have at least one recovery vehicle with us at all times.
There will be plenty of picture and video opportunities, we will take our time on the trails.
I'm a Subaru owner trying to get a bunch of first timers together to wheel at the park.
The Trailhawk is the closest thing to a Forester with actual off road capabilities so I wanted to extend an invite to you guys.
There will be a wide variety of vehicles, so don't feel that it is a Subaru only meet I'm hosting. Out of the ten we have going so far there are only 3 Subarus. The others are Tacomas and Jeeps.
I have mapped out the trails for the first half of the day. The facebook link I provided will work even if you don't have an account. You can view the details of the meet (Vehicles attending, maps, etc.).
Second, that is a prime example that just because you can does not mean you should. The brakes on that Subaru must have been fried by the time he got to the bottom of Black Bear. Without a low range he would have been riding the brakes all the way down.
One of our guys did Black Bear in a stock Subaru Outback. The capabilities of the driver plays a factor. He used to drive a Cherokee and had some experience.
The Subaru owner in the video has since lifted his Forester and went down Black Bear again. He said it was a lot easier.
I have driven Mino's bypass in my old '72. It is a cake walk on 35s locked front and rear. But, with 3 wheel drive (broke a front axle on Mino's) I had to use my winch in several places to get the front end over obstacles that should not have been an issue. There are some tight places that I would want the rocker protection due to the lack of ground clearance on the TH. The bypass is not that easy. In the video you can see them stacking rocks to get it up the hill.
Also if it has been raining you want to avoid the spider web. It is all creek bottom trails and gets very muddy.
Haha it's good to know you recognize what I drove into and what it took to get up that trail. The reason I stopped was because my rocker panel was sitting on that boulder. Just the plastic, not the jacking rail thank goodness. It had rained the day before, the Liberty in front of me took five attempts to make that first uphill. The Dakota behind me took four attempts because his truck was too long.
I had a water line halfway up my doors because of the spider web, I didn't know Subaru made boats.
What was Mino driving, because when I got down to the bottom I thought to myself, "how the **** do you get out of here?"
I know we're in a drought but I'm hoping for little to no rain for the march trip.

We're putting another one together for August, if you guys are interested please post in this thread(I'm subscribed) because I do not frequent the Cherokee forums much.
