Good grief, I won't even drive in Dallas if I don't have to. Texans drive nice everywhere but the major cities. I live out in the country near San Antonio and have family in Dallas and Houston.

If you remember only one thing, remember this...Texans do NOT honor yield signs. They drive right through them. Most Texas highways with frontage roads rely on yield signs to protect traffic exiting the highway. Don't believe it! Protect yourself like a boxer at all times when driving in Texas cities.

Lets put it this way. I have driven in Boston, LA, Denver, San Diego, Detroit, Pittsburg and Atlanta. I would prefer to drive in any of those cities over the metromess. People are just nuts here. You turn on a blinker here and people will cut you off just so you won't be in front of them.

When I go on vacation, on the way back home I can tell you when I am getting close because the drivers get exponetially worse.

Worst times of the day are 7 am to 10 am and 3PM to 7PM. Except for Friday. On Friday it's a mad house ALL DAY LONG.

I'm in Houston, actually Clear Lake, which is south of Houston, just off the city limits border, and yes, it's true. Merge? Yield? They have no meaning here.

JFK anniversary shouldn't be an issue. Traffic during rush hour can be bad on certain highways and interchanges...not as bad as many places Ive been though.
You think traffic is better in LA, Boston, and Pittsburgh?? That's crazy talk.

I just retired in San Antonio last year after a 26 year military career. I've driven everywhere in the world and most of the US. San Antonio was the only city in the world I was afraid to drive in. Even third world countries are safer, the stats show somebody dies in a wreck every other day here. Statewide several people a day die in wrecks.

I've visited Moscow, Russia, a few times and THERE the drivers really are crazy. Imagine a ten lane highway in speeding rush hour traffic with no separator/barrier THEN imagine oncoming drivers swerving into your lane directly in front of you when the traffic in their direction backs up. They know, you know they have no way to get back on to their side of the highway due to backed up traffic and as they rush at you head-on at highway speeds, you must leave that lane or die. Then imagine it in the winter on ice. And they wonder why I don't want to go back.

Geez, I met one of those Russians then, right here in Ontario last week. Now that I think of it, there are a lot of expensive and souped up cars parked at the Russian Mennonite church I pass.

I've driven in countries all over the middle east on all sides of the Persian Gulf, most of Europe, islands in the Atlantic, Korea, Japan, Philippines, Guam, Hawaii, Alaska. The numbers tell the story, San Antonio highways are deadly. On days when traffic is light you can see the "battle scars" everywhere.

#1 Most deadly highway in Texas
#13 Most deadly highway in America
