I have been out camping in both BB National Park and BB Ranch State Park. BBRSP you need to be prepared for isolation, preferably with another vehicle. The BBNP is the least visited of the National Parks and the State Park is even less. I spent Thanksgiving in 2014 camped in the SP at Fresno Canyon. Awesome is all I can say.

I agree the trails are not extreme but require you to be able to navigate and watch your tires. DO NOT drive over plants. Not only is it against the rules, the woody thorns out there will puncture your tires like a nail. I always take Slime out there along with a spare AND tire plugs.

Gravel and rocks everywhere so keep your speeds down. Fresno Canyon is about 2-3 hrs drive from Warnock visitors entrance, which is a good drive from Terlingua. I have to say if you go to BBNP go to Santa Elena canyon and wade in the Rio Grande and toss rocks into Mexico

Watch for rattlesnakes. They outnumber people but most days you won't see them.

We are going back for a week at Thanksgiving this year too.

John

I did BBRSP about 20 months ago in an '04 Nissan Pathfinder (pre-TH) and have to pretty much concur w/ the thorough report from @WeekendWarrior. Lot's of graded dirt roads and plenty of side trails for 'other opportunities.' We came from the Park HQ, along the river road (I second the beauty of that route - bluebonnets and other stuff were having a great year when we went through) and were bound for Alpine. We took a few of the 4x4 high clearance routes and I didn't find anything a TH shouldn't be able to do. Lots of good steps, washes and sand as already described. I chickened on a couple of spots because we hadn't really planned the trip for wheeling, so were also 'minimalist prepared.' There are plenty of routes for any skill level, and if you are just going N/S the main 'road' through can franly be done by anything 2x2 (except probably a really low car). Only real dange is if there had been a washout and it hadn't been graded lately.
