That's not even a very effective ad. Almost like a 6 year old arguing why his choice of Hot Wheels toy car is better than yours...

Last week at Costco we saw someone try to use their foot activated hatch. They had a flatscreen TV in their arms, and as soon as the guy kicked his leg up, he slipped on the ice and crashed down. Looked like he saved the TV, though.

We looked at an Escape, but didn't like the instrument layout or interior or external looks. That purple-blue paint is butt-ugly and so many Escape's in Alberta are that colour.

That's not surprising. The Escape is a bit cheaper and has been on the market for a long time. I remember wanting the Jurassic Park model in hopes of finding a T-Rex so she could stick her snout through that big sunroof.

It's a capable crossover, it just didn't light our fire like the Cherokee.

Falstaff I just laughed out loud reading that comment about the guy slipping on ice at Costco. Hilarious. Cherokee should use that in their counter-ad. My grand cherokee (before my Lattitude) had power everything (the hatch was power, although not foot activated of all stupid things)... and I don't miss any of that BS on my Lattitude although some of the gadgets are nice to have who cares (compared to the importance of a capable vehicle that's quiet, handles well, gets good mpg's, etc.). The day I can't lift my own hatchback will be the day I stop driving.

Mine opens every time. I reach down, grab the handle, and lift it up! Works like a charm

I actually caught my father once with my TH. We were bring stuff into his house, and the back was open. He spent a minute or so looking for the button to press to close the hatch
(he's used to power lift gates I guess). I embarrassed him a bit when I walked by, and grabbed it and closed it by hand.

When I rolled into the lab one day at work to unload stuff, my co-workers noticed the power liftgate, and then proceeded to give me a big middle finger as a result. Can't imagine what they'd do if they found out it has remote start as well.

And speaking of that, it was -4 F out this morning, so you bet your sorry butt I used that frickin' remote start.

Since I paid extra to have a power lift gate I kind of expected it to work every time.

I own Both

I have one of each: a 2013 Escape Titanium and a 2016 Cherokee Latitude. Both are FWD only. Each has its strengths, the Escape is a little sportier to drive, and is the Titanium level (factory leather and heated seats) and the turbo acceleration (when you need to merge on the freeway). The Cherokee was optioned well (i bought it used), has a nicer audio system, backup camera, bigger screen and gets better mileage. I put leather into it. The jeep drives a little 'heavier' than the Escape and subsequently feels a little more 'sure footed' in the rain. The only decent fault I could find with the Cherokee is the headlights, and i remedied that.

Both are so close that if they are being driven as daily drivers (commuting, around town, etc) I'd guess either one would please the average person. Both are head & shoulders above the 2015 RAV4 Limited that the Cherokee replaced. Jeep's customer service is way better than Ford's. Both are better than Toyota's !!!

I'm kinda' new around these parts, but I personally like it when there is a bit of spite and competition between brands. In the end, we win. One area Ford excels at compared to Jeep is economy. My current company car is a Ford Explorer (the best vehicle I have ever hated...but another story). It weighs almost 1k pounds more, has a larger V6, less transmission gears, and gets 5-6 more MPG. I love our KL, but what the H-E-double hockey sticks is the issue here?
