First Impressions - 2016 Cherokee Overland

Just traded in a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo for a new Cherokee Overland and after 4 days I'm impressed!

The Positives:
- Interior is very quiet. Probably a tad quieter than the WK2
- Ride comfort is good for its size, certainly not quite like the WK2
- Handling is very good
- Acceleration with the V6 is excellent (test drove a 2.4L and that sucks)
- Familiar Pentastar engine growl is great
- Excellent user interface (audio/hvac/controls/nav/etc) with the 8.4" screen
- Pano roof is great!
- Transmission shifts are generally good and smooth but a bit touchy when launching from stop, I think the tranny is still learning

The Negatives:
- Suspension is rather noisy when hitting road bumps
- Rear seat legroom is just adequate at full rearward position (I would have traded some luggage room for an extra inch or two)
- Lots of leather to go around except for the center armrest, I would think all "touch points" should be covered
- Stop/start is good 75% of the time, otherwise there's a noticeable bump when the engine restarts
- Noticed a bit of tire noise on very smooth road surfaces
- Wheel design looks very similar to Limited, would have wanted more differentiation

Overall a very nice package.

welcome! the back seats are adjustable fore and aft. are you sure they are in the most rearward position? I don't know why anyone would have them in anything but the most rearward, but they may have found their way forward at the dealership during a vehicle presentation. might want to look at it!

The tire noise, on my Wife's Limited the Continentals were loud, in fact when I put my TH firestone tires on they actually were quieter, factory tires on the limiteds/Overland aren't very good.

Here are some pics of our new Overland.

- More disappointed to hear that the TH has leather center armrest. Oh well, it's a good quality vinyl though.
- Yes I did check to see if the rear seats are in the rear most position.
- Looking forward to using this ride in winter weather. I hope the Contis are decent in the snow.

Kinda neat that the stop-start can be controlled by the amount of pressure applied on the brake pedal, i.e. I can shut-off or restart the engine by pushing in or letting off (ever so slightly) the brake pedal while stopped.

I'd bet you could swap out a leather armrest from a bone yard or order one if you wanted, I can't imagine the shape/mounting of the vinyl is any different than others.

Do yourself a favor and get dedicated snow tires now, before the snow flies. The Continentals are not good in the snow.

Nice looking ride!

I already started looking at eBay for a leather armrest. The only ones I can find so far are for the TH with red stitching on them. I'll keep looking.

I have dedicated snows on my other car and they're great but I find it too bothersome to do the annual change over, plus our new place has limited storage space. I'm retired so if the snow is bad, I have the option to stay home. I think I'll try my luck with the Contis this winter. Thanks for the tip.

Side note: I do have "The Premium Leather Group" interior. No mention of a leather armrest on the window sticker breakdown.
