New NOVA Hawks to Rausch Creek

Just got back from Rausch Creek today with my 2015 TH (bought in JAN)... all I can say is WOW. Took the Offroad 101 class to get a feel of it and glad I did. Hung with the Wranglers no problem.

Will do a full write up, pics and vids on the Off road section once I get some rest. 10 hours behind the wheel today.

Was actually looking at the possibility of putting together a TH group to head to Rausch Creek. My wife wants to hit up the 101 class now, and we thought why not get some TH's together for it. I honestly felt like a celebrity... people stopped, pointed and said things like.. "Wow, its a Trailhawk, look, look", "I got to hand it to you man", and "How did that thing get up here". And again, was able to do everything the Wranglers did.

Anyhoo, I know a few folks talked about getting into it with the TH and the 101 class seems to be an awesome place to start. 99% Wranglers up there... needs some Hawks.

Sounds like fun. I've got a hawk and live in the NoVa area, how much was the class and did you feel like rock-sliders were needed for the 101 trail?

Hey Nick - here is the site:
http://www.rauschcreekadventures.com/101.html

Its $150, and then another $50 (I think) when you get there for a yearly membership pass. You were behind the wheel from a little before 9 until 3:45... it was a LONG day... but massively fun.

I don't know much about offroading, hence the 101 class, so I'm sure some skill could have avoided some of the hits I took. In the morning I was hearing the skids plates taking a beating. But by the end, I was taking large rocks I couldn't avoid with the tires, and then letting the vehicle come down on the rock rails and side steps. They held up perfectly, no issues. Looking back, I'm pretty sure I would have damaged the underneath sides of the vehicle (where the rock rails go), if I hadn't had them on. However, this was my first time doing it and I'm sure others could have avoided. The other issues was ground clearance, you can see what a disadvantage I was in, compared with some of the other vehicles. That said, the Wranglers got stuck and I never did. LOVE THE TH.

Also added a pic of one of the gouges from the side steps/rock rails. Bunch of them. I just cleaned off, and hit with the rattlecan of bedliner I used on them. Done. Glad I didn't get Line-X. Skid plates and undercarriage look fine.

HAHA, I WISH I had thought of that! I was thinking along the lines of... 'With better MPG than you!"

Though, my wife, after seeing what a stripped down Wrangler looked like inside, turned and said... "Don't touch our seats."

2014 TH in Gainesville over here. My schedule isn't a typical M-F one, but w/ enough head's up, I'm all for meeting up and doing some local stuff if you want to try to get a group together.

Cheers!
