That's the same law in Vermont. However, a lot of new cars now have cameras in the way of where the inspection sticker is supposed to go. This was the case with my wife's Explorer, so I asked them to put it next to the rear view mirror on the passenger side. If they put it below the camera assembly to keep it centered, it would have been half way down the windshield.
The same is now true for my Cherokee with the Lane Keep Assist camera assembly in the way. I plan to ask them to put it on the passenger side again so that it's out of my field of view. I'll probably put a sticky note right where I want it so they don't put it somewhere else.
I guess the placement laws are going to have to change since there's no possible way to put it directly under the rear view mirror AND keep it out of the driver's field of view on some new cars.
