Unfortunately some of their staff know less about the various models and features than the customers. That was our experience anyway.

Although I would always recommend caveat emptor (buyer beware) when it comes to the model specifics VIN # and order codes, ultimately we depend on the dealer to guide us through that and not take advantage of us.

In our experience Great West Chrysler Jeep was awful. Frankly it is not the sales people as they are just pulled out of nowhere looking for work with no previous experience. Its more the Management/Ownership. Any dealer would make things right with a customer, unless they only sell one car a week, then they cannot afford to.

I think I've always known more about the car I wanted to buy, than any salesperson I've ever had.

another example of why we have to shop around for who to shop from. when I car shop it's a multi month process. we have a great Toyota dealer near me that is awesome about letting you test drive any car to your heart's content without harassing you. in fact, I was kind of hoping they would be a little more proactive in selling to me but nope, real laid back. too bad, no matter how many RAV4s I drove they just weren't the car for me. I'd gladly recommend Acton Toyota of Littleton, MA

and if anyone doesn't believe bad dealer stories, a friend's brother once told me, 30 yrs ago, that as a mechanic at a Porsche dealership, where those cars were sold w/o spare tires but did come with a pump. they would take the pump out and sell them to the buyers for an extra fee

Maybe--I always do a lot of reviewing and checking up on vehicles before I buy them (didn't do that when I was younger---no google back then-lol) However, I have read that some salesmen or salesladies play "dumb" (some are not playing) to make you feel important and how smart you are to make you feel good. (not saying that about you--but just one tactic I had read about.)

I have never been a car salesman, but I have bought a lot of cars in my life time. I thought that the "circus" had disappeared with all the information we can obtain on the Internet about new car prices. Sales people still try to tell you anything they can to get you to purchase a vehicle. That is why I always inform anybody that comes on this forum if they want to tow anything, get the tow package as it cannot be added later to the factory specs.

I usually now just want the OTD price difference if I am trading or the OTD cash price if no trade. Hopefully, I have already figured out what they are really giving me.. In the past I have told sales people to give me their best price the first time and there have been several times I have rejected it. They would then say what would it take to sell it you today and I said I told you to give me your best price and you did as I leave their dealership. I am not quite that 'bad" now--but close-LOL

All dealers are not created equal. When I have shopped multiple dealers for the best deal, that becomes painfully evident. That being said, the dealership I ultimately went with to purchase our KL has been great. And continues to be so. Their service department is very attentive. Best I know of, bar none.

My Jeep dealer was great and the entire transaction went extremely smoothly.

When we leased my wife's BMW, we ran into a lot of issues on the financing side. They wanted to play games with the money factor, increasing the base rate BMW Financial charges. I wasn't having that. My biggest problem was the deception when they claimed ignorance of it. When I broke out a spreadsheet I created showing the breakdown of everything, they started to stutter. They finally broke down after we walked out, but it left a bad taste in my mouth for that dealership.

Prior to buying the Cherokee, I went looking at a VW GTI. The dealership wanted to play a lot of games with discounts. I was trading in a Golf TDI and they said they would double the $1000 VW credit (making it $2k) on top of any other promotions. Of course when we went to look at numbers and they forgot about this, when I had them add it in they mysteriously adjusted the other discounts by -1000. When I called them on it they said I was mistaken -- even though they came back with the exact same number. They said my trade-in would be $10-12k. I asked them why the range. They said it would depend on the car I bought. I laughed and asked how that would matter -- will the person they try and sell it to pay more because the person who traded it in bought a more expensive car? Finally after a LOT of haggling, we agreed on a price. I confirmed twice on the phone the out the door total. So I drove over their to sign the paperwork and somehow it went up $1000. I told him to go **** himself and walked out. Three days later we test drove the Cherokee and a couple days after that I bought it. So I guess it all worked out in the end.
