Rose City Dodge - Oil Change

Hello everyone;

Recently purchased a 2016 Jeep TrailHawk and went in for my 2nd oil change. Unbeknownst to us while driving to a Leafs game on Monday that whomever installed the oil filter either overtightened or did not lube the O-ring enough. 15min from Buffalo and the "Oil Pressure" light comes on and smoke is pouring out the back of the car. Luckily Dodge and Discount rental worked swiftly and got us a car to get to the game and we made it with 20min to spare before the game. Unfortunately I now have to deal with the struggle of trying to get them to come clean and replace the engine or extend the warranty. Just curious if anyone here has dealt with this sort of incident or if you have any suggestions as to what I should do.

They have borescoped the engine, removed the valve covers and inspected removed the oil pan and inspected, replaced the oil and ran the vehicle for a while. No knocking noises were heard and they scoped the car. I have asked for pics of the borescope, and results from the compression test.

The vehicle only has 35,000 on it and tons of warranty left. I feel after hearing the knocking as I was pulling over because of the alarm that we should be re-imbursed due to the possible damages that may have happened or are to come.

I appreciate the feedback.

If you pulled over as soon as the light came on, there should be no damage done. However, it may be wise for you to get (in writing) a "lifetime" warranty on the engine courtesy of the dealership that caused the issues. You may never have a problem, but on the oft chance that you do, you'll be covered.

Good Luck with your decision and keep us apprised of the situation.

BTW, welcome to JCC...

Definitely get everything in writing!!! Don't know how Canada works for warranty worked issues but, south of the border, if another issue arises from previously worked issues they covered for the minimum of the duration of the warranty period.

Second, Leafs and Sabres really!!! Go Flyers, !!
