Do exit numbers in the US work the same as Canada, where the number corresponds to the highway mile marker? For example, If you're at Exit 40, that means mile marker 40, and therefore Exit 36 is going to be nearly exactly 4 miles ahead, and the congestion will last for about 1 mile after that.
If it does work that way, I'd argue that for somebody not familiar with the local street names connecting with the highway would probably prefer the exit number approach because then they can do some math.
Of course, as with just about every other similar feature, making it user-optional would always be best. But I don't believe there are any such settings you can adjust, making the above argument moot. :-)
