I had the WS-50 Blizzaks on my '95 Sidekick. Bought a bunch of Yokohamas after that, l even tried cheap tires with studs, etc... The WS-50 were fantastic back then. The WS-80s of today (and the DM-V2s) have truely evolved, 20+ years later.
My point is... you are only up on tire peformance/quality if you've tried the latest generation.
And... newer vehicules with advanced AWD and stability control are far more forgiving than past generations were, making a bunch of tires look really great even when traction is limited.

I say look online for comparos of latest generation tires. Anecdotes can be Ok, but...

I bought a set of General Tire Grabber Arctic, 245/65R17; they're a special order tire and Canadian Tire.

I haven't installed them yet, gonna be doing that next weekend.

Uniroyal - Tiger Paw 3
Michelin - Ultra Grip Ice
Toyo - G3 ice
Toyo - GSI-5
Good Year - Ultragrip Winter
These are the ones i bought, and to my surprise they are very good in snow, and when driving on the highway they are as quiet as my 4 seasons Continental!

Anyway check their site, they have incredible price and good service! They delivered whithin 3 days and delivery was free!

Anyway, good luck with your search!

I have had General Altimax Arctic on 4 different vehicles. It is my go-to winter tire. Great in snow, great in wet, quiet on the highway.
