A little late to edit my above post so here I am with a little complement :
Just in case I wasn't clear enough about the dead spot : we see it in the above pictures at what... 8 o'clock-ish driver's side (and passenger side not visible - if bulb positionned the same way as driver side bulb).
So that means the wire is actually sitting at 2 o'clock inside the headlamp (the mirror thing). We want that dead spot anywhere above the cutoff, which means the wire needs to sit anywhere below horizontal inside the lamp. From 4 o'clock to 8 o'clock would be Ok, ideally 6 o'clock-ish (for a 12 o'clock dead spot).
