I will be driving interstate the whole time (80 mph) and the car will be loaded up with driver plus three people and a bunch of camping gear (maybe 1000lbs total of gear and passengers). Does anybody have experience with doing something like this and want to share their fuel economy figures?

Also, I may be putting on one of those trailer hitch cargo platforms on the back for more storage space. Anybody have any experience with those and how they effect ride quality/fuel economy/noise/etc?

Any feedback would be amazing! Thanks!

Just be aware, the weight limit of the Cherokee with cargo, passengers and everything is only 925lbs. Anything over that and you risk going of the legal limit of the Cherokee and it'll handle softly. With that said, I drive around everywhere I go with about 1800lbs of gear so this of don't do as I do. I averaged 16mpg when I do my trips, even with a basket on the rear.
