I haven't seen the RRO step rails in real life....... Call me a poser, if you like, but mods that affect that adversely aren't interesting to me. The kind of sidesteps I have seen belong firmly in that category, but I assume the RRO step rails are something else.

No offense - like I said, it's just opinions; and your explanation clarifies things a fair amount. You can see the rails in my avatar pic (or in garage) and the RRO site is easy to find. I'd take a look before comparing them to the running board style bling you mention. These rails do not affect clearance and are hardened steel to absorb impact. Painted black to blend better and contoured to match body. Anyway - back tot he OP about dirt in sills, rails won't affect that regardless of style chosen.

There's been some rain today, so I snapped a photo to illustrate what I'm talking about. This is after 6 miles on graded dirt roads (going home from work), so we're not exactly talking hardcore off-roading here.

Agree the KL lacks mud protection some other vehicles provide...

Here's my pickup truck which runs the same roads...

The difference is the pickup has a rubber squeegee that presses against the rocker panel when the door closes whereas the KL has a hard plastic trim piece that doesn't keep the mud off the top of the rocker panel...
