2014 Trailhawk stuck in 4low with rear locked

I was out today in the snow and got stuck. I engaged the 4low with the rear locker and was able to get out but now I get a 4wd temporarily unavailable message and it will not try to disengage. I have let the cherokee sit for a couple hours now thinking that maybe something was overheated but nope still the same issue.

Try backing up. Using 4 low on surfaces where you'd get a good grip can bind thing up. Basically drive the opposite direction slowly to unwind things.

Hope you get it sorted out.

i tried going in reverse, figure 8's forward and reverse, neutral rolling nothing worked. I screwed with it for about 45 minutes and could not get it to unlock. All of this was on packed snow or fresh powder. The system is just locked up tight now and tells me it unavailable.

Maybe a software flash will fix it??

From Four Wheeler Magazine:

"On our gnarly loose-dirt hillclimb, which posed a challenge for the other two SUVs in this test, the Cherokee churned its way to the top with no drama, leaving the judges impressed. Unfortunately, after the stellar hillclimb performance, the vehicle refused to shift out of 4-Lo and it refused to unlock the rear differential. Nothing we did would coerce the system to unlock. The vehicle was drivable, so we piloted it to a rural airport parking lot, where it was retrieved by Jeep. To Jeep’s credit, they did not ask to be dropped from competition and after inspecting the vehicle, the company promptly informed us that the problem was related to a software glitch that had already been identified and rectified. Our test vehicle’s software just hadn’t been re-flashed with the updated software. After our test vehicle’s software was re-flashed, we’re told the four-wheel-drive system returned to normal operating status, though we were not able to test it to confirm.

Could software be to blame?

See a recent Four Wheeler Magazine Review were the same sounding issue occurred:

Did you unlock the rear locker and roll forward a bit before putting it in neutral and taking it out of 4w low?

I would be tempted to say the software could be a problem... I've had mine not wanna unlock sometimes, but I try to unlock exactly how it explains in the manual... Always worked

I've had troubles on occasion as well. But I think it's been my own problem, rolling or not while unlocking, neutral or not while switching out of low.

If I follow the steps exactly though, it changes in/out without problem.

I've had mine not want to unlock too.

I'm feeling like a lazy SOB at the moment. Anyone want to post the instructions on the proper way?
