Exclamation 2015 Cherokee Thermostat fail twice???

So this week my check engine light came on and it ended up being a code for a thermostat, was cleared and thought to be from the cold as i live in the U.P. of Michigan. Well the past few days i have had little to no heat and then this morning my light came on again, along with the car saying the "engine is hot" and the electronic throttle needing to be checked. I purchased this Cherokee with 28k last august, and found out this morning the thermostat had already been replaced last Feb... ugh! We are on our way to a dealership this afternoon to see what the issue is. I like my car and how it drives in the winter, but i do not want continual issues!! Has anyone had to have their thermostat replaced twice?? It is the I4 with 4x4 model.

Hi lillies,

I'm sorry about this experience with your Cherokee! If you'd like, I would be happy to reach out to the dealership on your behalf and see if there is any further assistance I can provide. Please PM your VIN and contact info if I can help!

Unhappy Yes, and me too it seems Thermostat is stuck open

Our family got our 2015 Jeep Cherokee Latitude 4X4 on Dec 31st 2016. My first car payment has not even become due yet and my engine light comes on. I bought it with 37,000 miles on it and it just hit 40,009 miles. It was Thursday 2/9/17. I get it scanned and it shows P0128. Saturday 2/11/16 I go by my local Jeep dealership and they tell me that I will have to bring it in to officially get it diagnosed so I make an appointment for Monday 2/13/17. I call Chrysler and get a case # and the rep tells me that this will be sent to a case manager and that the case manager will call the dealership on Monday and get everything taken care of because it is a very well known issue and that the thermostats are on back order just like numerous people on this thread have said.
So now I am wondering if it is going to be the thermostat issue or the dealership will find that it is the hose touching the manifold recall issue I just found out about searching online? I would also like to know if this is such a known issue and there is such a back order on the thermostat then how long does it take for a known issue to become a recall? I have loved the design and styling of the Cherokees since they came out in 2014 and was ecstatic to be able to own one. People told me to not get one but I went ahead and did it anyway. I really hope I do not come to have egg on my face and come to regret my purchase. Our family goes hiking and swimming in the woods all the time and the Cherokee totally fits our lifestyle. Well I will have to come back with an update after everything gets checked out tomorrow.

Well here is my update--------------I went to my local dealer and they did not charge me for the official diagnosis, did order me a new thermostat, (which should arrive in about three weeks being on back order and all), and will install it all at no charge to me considering that I just bought my Cherokee and was within three years still and just a bit over on the mileage. They also said it was horrible that this is such a known issue and the parts are so far on back order and Chrysler's issues should not be put on the customer. If I get treated this good and this is the only issue I ever have with my Cherokee I just might keep buying Jeeps.

Don't be shy to name that dealer here. They did good and deserve good publicity (we often pounce on the bad ones, but we should also give credit to the customer friendly ones too).

Let us know how it all works out, once you have the new thermostat.

Wasn't sure about the forum policy on that actually with dealers and all. Even though I did not buy my Cherokee from them I want to give lots of praise and credit to the service department of Crown Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram in Southeast Tennessee for all of the great service they have provided to me and my five year old son! They could have not have been nicer and the shuttle service provided drove me to work and brought me back to the shop later that day. I feel like I am with friends when I am in the service department!

My son nicknamed our Cherokee "Smoke" after a certain ninja he likes and Smoke says "So far........FLAWLESS VICTORY!!!! Crown Jeep"

Heading Down that Road As Well

I found this board as a result of Google pointing me here about my thermostat going bad. I bought my 2015 Cherokee in May of 2015, and have ~47000 mi on it. I had the same issue, check engine light came on, not a lot of cabin heat, then the engine temp hot, service some electronic control something or other.

Anyway, so I took it to the closest dealer to me on Monday, and the SA told me that there's a new software update for the thermostat and that before they can do anything, they have to update the software, which "should correct the problems".

Guess what came back on again tonight on my way home...all of the above! Looks like I'll be calling Chrysler in the morning for a what to do, I bought the Extreme Wrap Service contract with my vehicle, so hopefully at most, it'll cost me my $100 deductible, but being such a well known issue, they should cover this under warranty.

I just had this happen to my 2016 today. Taking my son to school I noticed the heater wasn't blowing very warm. Then on the way home the check engine light came on. Took it in and they asked me to leave it there for two days. I said no can do as I use the vehicle for work. Then they said they had to order parts for this repair and that it could wait till I can leave it overnight.

Anyone have a DIY guide for replacing the thermostat housing? I haven't been able to find one anywhere.

2.4L Thermostat Failure

I bought a 2015 Latitude in September and I've been happy with it for the few months that I've had it, however the check engine light came on yesterday. I took it to a local dealership today they said the thermostat was bad and that it was a well know issue with the 2.4. My mileage is 36200. Only 200 miles past the warranty, so its not covered and going to cost about $500. Very disappointed that its a "known issue" and not covered under a recall or that they wont extend the warranty on this particular issue.
Hope its not a sign of things to come.
