2.4L Thermostat Failing

I haven't seen any posts on this yet but here at work we have had several vehicles (200, Dart, Cherokee) with the I-4 engine that the thermostat fails and the car wont heat up. From listening in on this problem Chrysler doesn't know if its certain build dates or if its all vehicles that are having this problem. Thought id spread the word!

My 2.4 engines (2) are slow to heat up in very cold weather, but nothing acting like a failed thermostat. They eventually warm up and then the thermostat opens and maintains temp. I believe that's why they have the shutters on the Cherokee with the I4, to make it run hotter.

the shutters are for aerodynamics and mpg. They do help in controlling engine temp though.

generally speaking though most aluminum block engines warm up much quicker than their cast iron counterparts.

I guess that the vehicles at work aren't heating up and just blow cold air all the time.

How cold is it where you are? Even if the thermostat was stuck open, seems like they should eventually heat up at least enough to provide some warm air. Have you had them checked out. And on the Cherokee at least, have you scrolled through the info screens on dash? You will find the actual coolant water temperature there. In summer mine will run around 200F, but in 10F ambient, hardly ever gets above 175F and that's several miles down the road after a 10 minute warmup at home. Dealer should be able to tell if it is in the coolant temp or if something is wrong with climate control.

Today it was 46 F but Sunday it was -10f. Our mechanics who perform various warranty work on several diff. Manufacturers cars have been replacing the thermostats in the vehicles when this happens.

I just got my 15 back from the shop for a failed thermostat. It was stuck open. The engine would only heat to around 170 degrees. Then when I got it back it was leaking coolant. I took it back in and was told it wasn't anything they did, that it was a bad hose. BS. So my 15 has been in and out of the shop 3 times for a total of 10 days since I bought it last February. Anyway, with the stat stuck open you can't get your car very warm. Turning the heat on just makes the engine even cooler. What year is yours?

FYI that was between 15 and 25 degrees here. The car should always run at or about 185ish I believe.

This is what happens when things break fail early. **** Jeep. If I get a buy back, I'll buy something other than Jeep. I liked my Jeep when I got it. I blacked it all out. Now that it keeps having issues, I want something different that is NOT a 4 banger. Lol.
