Horsepower w/ K&N CAI for 3.2L

Jeep says the 3.2l v6 has 271 hp & 239 lb-ft of torque. I've had the K&N CAI installed on my 2016 Latitude 4x4 v6 for a couple months now and it works great, and K&N says it adds approximately 8 hp & 4-5 lb-ft of torque. So the overall hp should not be about 279ish hp & 244 lb-ft of torque but on K&N's website they ran a dyno and it showed 218 hp & 193 lb-ft of torque. I was surprised to see this, is the stock 271 hp said by Jeep at the crankshaft? and K&N getting the 218 hp at the wheels? Anybody know something about this?

Oh goodness no. Not another one of these. Listen, do us all a favor. Take your vehicle to a dyno and test it before and after the kit. Then let us know. Until then it's all just speculation. I will be watching this thread closely and will shut it down if it gets ugly.

And yes, normally the larger HP numbers you see manufactures posting are at the crack, not at the wheel.

Shoot, depending on the day my Cherokee can feel like it has an extra 25-50 just on how it runs and if 4 wheel drive is engaged.

You will always get lower hp/tq numbers at the wheel because of drivetrain loss. Everything has a penalty. Fwd vehicles are generally 15% loss, rwd are 15-22% and awd/4x4 is about a 25-35% hp loss.

If you do the math, 218/271 = 80% (or 20% loss) from crank to wheels. Sounds about right as mentioned above by @AGP.
