Yeah motors starting up are a pain when it comes to busting the load limit on a fragile (low wattage) circuit.

When I made my original comment I was thinking of a PTC (Positive Thermal Coefficient) heater element. With this; as the temperature of the material increases, so does the resistance. This often will only last a few cycles but the current draw for those cycles will be much higher. DC elements are easier and do often have a steady or at least much more steady resistance (even from the start).
