Yeah, I haven't played with sport mode too much yet, just haven't had a chance to really use it, but it seemed I didn't want to go that high into each gear for daily driving.

I guess I'm just trying to get it to drive more like a car than an suv.

Sport Mode is as useless as **** on a boar hog. The revs it holds in each gear is crazy for city driving. And since the vehicle isn't designed for a road course, the shift patterns at higher speeds is pointless. Maybe it is nice for towing. If so, it should be labeled Tow Mode.

Like David said, the tranny can cause delay. One example is cruising at 60+ mph in 8th gear and stomping on the gas. Trans has to synch two dog clutches to dive down to 4th; which is one gear below 1:1. That's going to take some time regardless the throttle action.

As far as throttle response goes, like I demonstrated to my wife, step on the skinny peddle on the right. She'll get up and go. Many other vehicles will be stressed to match the 9-speed out of the hole with its very low 1st gear.

I've used sport mode many times when I know I'm going to want/need more response; especially in heavy traffic where a little bit of aggressiveness is actually safer than being ... courteous. Once I'm moving, I'll flip back to auto.

There are a series of S curves on country roads around me where Sport Mode is nice. Tightens up the power curve and engine braking. The gear pattern change contributes, maybe throttle travel too, but got a suspicion valve timing is also changed (i.e. to he11 with fuel economy).

Edit to Add: Sport Mode also variably changes the engine power distribution to a rear wheel biased 60% split of torque.

Yeah, my folks live out in the country a bit, lots of nice roads; now I have a reason to go visit them.

I got the Pedal Commander this weekend and got to play around with it just a little bit. It definitely does what it says. With the different modes it gives you the ability to really customize the feel of your pedal.

I still don't quite understand what this product does for the money it costs.

Is it adjusting timings? Or just what you feel in the pedal? Does this have ANY impact on the actual transmission shifts? or are you still missing the 3-2-1 downshift pattern?

The only change it makes is to the signal from the pedal to the computer. The computer sees full throttle with the pedal at 3/4. That is variable depending on the settings. So really it just shortens the pedal throw. It does nothing else. I have seen some that will also do the opposite for off road use to make the first half of pedal movement only indicate say 1/4 throttle to give better low speed control for rock crawling. Something I believe Rock mode does anyway.
