"Fluttering" Noise - Any Ideas?

Just got my Cherokee out of dealer for oil presser sensor replacement. Now (38k miles) it's got what I call a fluttering noise when above about 40 mph on deceleration. At least that's when I can start hearing it. It's definitely a sound with a frequency that increases with speed. It stops completely as soon as the brakes are applied or when I press gas pedal to accelerate. I can't tell for sure whether it's in the engine, suspension, or drivetrain.

Got a dealer appt to have it checked out but they couldn't get me in until April 3.

Any idea what this might be? Should I stop driving it now?

Thanks

Given clues mentioned about the noise being affected by deceleration, braking and acceleration, it might be a vacuum leak somewhere. Just a shot in the dark because replacing the oil pressure sensor requires depressurizing the fuel system and the removal of the air inlet hose, upper intake manifold and lower intake manifold with the fuel injectors and fuel rail. Could be as simple as a vacuum hose not reconnected.

The comment about fluttering noise is odd though. Depressurizing the fuel system includes removing the fuel pump module cover which is under the rear seat. Maybe they didn't put the cover back on right and you are hearing the fuel pump module.

Again, just shots in the dark. Be careful though since they probably worked around the fuel system.

Thanks.

I've read some of the posts about CV joint and driveshaft failures that others have experienced. Their descriptions don't seem to fit my problem though. I'm hoping that's it is a drivetrain issue that will be covered under the warranty.

The air dam is the plastic at the very bottom of your bumper if it is loose it could make strange sound also look for anything dragging under your vehical

Update------ Well, by the time I got it to the dealer today, the "fluttering" had become more of a thumping noise.

The service department found a bad left front ball joint. He explained that the ball joint was integral to the steering knuckle, and the knuckle has to be replaced.

The part's on order and I'm driving it until the repair.

I looked at it while on the rack. The boot over the ball joint was split open, so maybe that allowed grit to get in and do the damage.

Well, I drove it home and will drive it back to the dealer hopefully in a few days. Very little driving until then. I have a pickup I can use.

Update: Fluttering, thumping noise

OK, I made the 50 mile trip this morning to the dealer to have the left front steering knuckle/ball joint replaced.

The service department took it in, the tech removed the bad steering knuckle, opened the box for the new one, and it was the wrong part...for the passenger side rather than the driver's side! @#$%$#@

Per the service manager, the correct part was ordered but the Chrysler warehouse in Atlanta sent the wrong part.

Back home now waiting for the correct part to arrive. I told the service manager to open and inspect the part before calling me to come back in.

Bummer of a way to start the day!

Oh no! I'm sorry about that! Please let us know if there are any further delays.

The delay is not really the problem. It's the unneccesary expense of time, money, and wear/tear on the vehicle because of FCM's lack of attention to detail at the parts warehouse. You could follow up on that and ask FCM to reimburse me for the wasted 100 mi round trip if that's within your purview.

Thanks.
