This ^^^

It wasn't that long ago they had a partnership with Mobil and only used that brand...

Typically (SOPUS) Shell Oil Products; Pennzoil or Quaker State.

They tend to have the best rebates and sale prices.

Pennzoil Platinum Synthetic (7K OCI) or Quaker State Advanced Durability Conventional (5K OCI)

I have been doing my oil changes and tire rotations every 3K miles (lots of off-road). Usually takes about 1-2 hours, depending on how the leg is holding up. Pennzoil Platinum, full synthetic, $29.43/5-gal jug. K&N filter, $6.85/ea.

However, my dealer made me an offer for 24 visits, same oil with a MOPAR filter and a 5-tire rotation for $685. That's $28.54/visit or a savings of $192, for the future upgrades fund.

Black oil isn't necessarily a bad thing. It means that the detergent is doing it's job and has any contaminants too small for the filter in suspension, as intended. Back in the 50's, before detergent motor oil, it had to be changed every 3000 miles. Now even conventional oil is good for 5000 miles or more, although many people prefer to waste their money and harm the planet by changing their oil much more often than necessary for zero benefit.

Thumbs up What oil do I use?

Grapeseed for frying (high smoke point), sometimes peanut for the taste (and not-so-bad smoke point).
Olive for anything cold. Canola for baking.

Edit : Oops, wrong thread. Nope, wrong forum

Agreed... but I use Pompeian OlivExtra Original for general use... It is an olive and canola oil blend with a high smoke point.

OOoo... me likes ! But apparently we don't get that one in Canada. eBay seller will ship it up here but way too costly...

Funny the other day I started reading on oils for frying, smoke points etc... and apprently it's not just about high smoke points, but the type of bound in the fatty acids, and grapeseed oil has a high polyunsaturated fat count with double bonds, which cause oxidation at high temps apparently. LOL. Yeah whatever... I know one thing, when I use it, it tends to not "burn" as quickly as other common oils, so it works for me.

Are we off topic ? Nah
