Has anyone been about to get into 9th gear

I took the TH out today to see if I could get it to go to 9th gear.

I got it up to 88mph an no shift. I even used the select gear and bumped it up to 9th, but not shift.

Am I missing something or what does it take to get it to 9th.

I did have the Transmission TSB done.

you have to be going downhill, something about the load on the engine on a flat makes it stay in 8th

What is it with the hunt for 9th gear? I think this has to be based on some old timey notion that the highest gear is the best for cruising. Based on what i've read and been told recently, that's no longer the case. Transmission technology has gotten far enough along that it is smart enough to do a ton of calculations to choose the right gear. Engine Load, RPM, Throttle Position, Ascent, Descent, or Flat, etc. If the engine isn't revving really high while you're cruising, and you're getting expected MPG, I would leave it be.

there are two hills I hit 9th on every day on my commute, both at only around 65mph so you don't have to be going 80 you just have to be going downhill

I drove 1300 miles on my two week old TrailHawk. I must have an 8 speed trans and thats fine. 9th is an extinct animal.

It is because this is a 9 speed transmission. I would think then it would hit 9th at sometime, right. How do you know if your transmission is working right if you never hit the gear it is suppose to have? If my transmission doesn't hit 9th then something might be wrong with it and I want it fixed before it is out of warranty and I wouldn't leave that be.

Nothing is wrong with it, the engineers have said you won't get into 9th much. Its like a super overdrive gear. If the conditions are met to get into 9th you'll get into it...otherwise it is probably not optimal to be in. Get up to 80 in cc and hit a downhill and you'll probably see it.
