Since I first got my Jeep and putting up with all of the hassle and heart ache associated with the vehicle, it honestly felt like an uphill battle to get my argument and point across to Chrysler. Finally, my persistence has paid off. I finally got the news today from my lawyer that Chrysler has agreed to take my car back and refund me every penny I've spent on acquiring the vehicle; my down payment, taxes, registration fees, and all of my monthly payments. I am not happy that I had to resort to 3rd parties to get the job done, but it became necessary and it was well worth it because now I don't have to deal with the safety issues and inconveniences associated with my vehicle.

As I've said before in other threads, it's a shame Chrysler handled this case so poorly, from getting the run around, to ignoring my concerns for safety. Had they just listened from the beginning I'd be more than happy to do business with them again, but since they dropped the ball, I'll take back my money and run.

With that said, I probably won't be around much on this forum anymore since the Jeep will soon be out of my hands. I'll be around a bit to address anyone else's questions or concerns regarding the transmission issues. I will also have some aftermarket parts available for sale including OEM all-weather rubber slush floor mats, Whispbar roof rails, Canvasback cargo liner, HID headlight kit, etc. I'll make separate posts for the items for sale once everything is finalized and the vehicle has been surrendered, which should be a couple weeks from now.

To those experiencing reoccuring problems with your transmission or anything else that affects the way the car performs and your safety, don't take "no" for an answer. Put up a fight until you reach your goal.

Chrysler will pay what the lawyer calls the reasonable amount which is usually somewhere between 3000-5000 dollars for the attorney's fees. Usually this will cover all of the legal fees, but if there is a remainder, I am responsible for it. Because it was all done in llitigation and didn't have to go to court, if I have to pay anything, it will be between 500-2000 bucks. May seem like a lot but you cant put a price on safety and its a far cry from the amount I put down for the car. Worth it IMO

Sorry to hear about your Cherokee Dundas but glad you're out from under a bad one. Stay away from VW though...I came from a VW and it was interesting to say the least. If you want details PM me.

Heh, I used to have a VW and an Audi. Honestly I thought they were great cars until they reached the 100k+ mile marker. I never had a problem with them up until then. Would I buy one, no. I plan on leasing and was actually looking at the new Audi A3 Quattro... Would love to get into a sedan again. I've also been looking at the BMW X1 since it has the cargo room I prefer. It would be my first choice, but its pricey compared to the A3

Congratulations an sorry about your experience. It doesn't look like a lot and as you say, safety is priceless.

I had whole bunches of problems with mine most of which were fixed under the pre-loved warranty. However, when rhey weren't they cost a small fortune. At 103k I had a major issue begin to develop and that's when I elected to begin looking for a new car.

@Dundas- I can't begin to tell you how happy I am for you. We both went through so much, you more than I. It is a shame that Chrysler did not resolve this in a better manner than they did. I do believe that your dealership should have taken more interest in your problem's as mine did for me. It would have made thing's much easier across the board. I've had my replacement for a little over a week now and there is no comparison to a Cherokee that is healthy as to one that was sick like you and I both had to begin with. Whatever you choose in the near future I hope you have all the best of luck with. Enjoy it in good health and happiness. It has been a pleasure sharing our hard times and hope that we might only be able to share the good in the future. Please take care and be good.:crying::smile:

Thanks

I honestly think the latest dealership did a good job at handling the situation. It was corporate who blocked them from being able to do anything as corporate had the final say in everything pertaining to my vehicle and what the service department could do on it. The dealership agreed with everything I had to say, its just they couldn't do anything about it because the problem was then out of their hands. Taking the car to a dealership I didnt buy the car from makes it more difficult to since that initial customer relationship wasn't there. Had I been able to take it to the dealership I bought it from in California, I am sure they would have had more say in what to do, but since Im living in a new state, doing that is now impossible. I am just glad of the outcome in all of this and will move forward

I am glad that you work your case out!

In my case, Chrysler agreed to give me a replacement at no cost to me, except the MSRP difference plus tax. I decided to stay with the Jeep Cherokee because it is a great vehicle.

Does Chrysler have a competent and responsible network of dealerships? Clearly not. Am I going to stay with Jeep for my next vehicle? I don't know. Am I going to limit my range of choices by boycotting Chrysler products? Yes. I wouldn't let this event haunt me forever. I'll move on. I'll always choose a vehicle I love.

Good luck for your adventure with your coming new vehicle!

Glad your issue was resolved!

I am about to bring mine in for its first service, and it has a laundry list of issues at 8k miles:

Creaks and rattles in the interior
Squealing under the vehicle at 20mph or lower
Speakers rattle
Uconnect sometimes glitches (applied the first update but can't get the newest to flash)

And the worst: when cruising down a level highway at 60mph the transmission shifts to a high enough gear to make my rpm go to 1000... almost feels like its stalling... and have to really PUNCH the gas to get it out of that rut.

Good luck with the interior creak and rattle noises, along with the speaker rattles. I had these issues as well and brought them up to my service adviser the day after i first got my vehicle. They looked at everything and tried fixing all the noises, but when they took things apart to fix the noises, new ones would come up. Basically, everything that's done at the factory in terms of trim pieces is the best its going to get. Once service starts taking apart your car to find the cause of the noises, parts will get loose and new noises will arise. I brought my car in like 5 times for rattling noises, each time was right after one noise was fixed and another came up. To this day I still have rattle noises that the service guys haven't been able to pinpoint down and its been almost 6 months since I got the car.

As for the speakers, they looked at it once and said everything was fastened the way its supposed to be. Apparently the door panels aren't engineered to handle "bassy" music and they will rattle. I called Jeep customer care about this and asked that they install some sort of sound insulation to help absorb the rattles and they said no. I fought this issue with the GM at the dealership I bought it at and he too said no and that I shouldnt be playing loud bass music or music at high volume, which I never do.

well the final papers have been issued to me. The total attorney's fees out of my pocket is $1000, which is better than I thought it would be. Chrysler LLC has decided to cover the rest of the attorney's fees. I will be getting everything I've paid for thus far back, minus ~$200 for the usage fee up until the first documented incident. Overall I am very satisfied with the outcome of this ordeal. Shame on Chrysler for not siding with me from the get go. They ended up losing more money over it, but I'm sure it's just chump change to them in the realm of things.

I'll be posting things for sale from my Jeep in the coming weeks.

I am thankful the dealer I bought my TH from just took the car back and put me in another one without even consulting Chrysler. In the end he went back and forth with Chrysler trying to get them to take the car back but they made him replace the transmission and put it back on the lot disclosing that the trans was replaced.

Dundas I would love to hear what your issues were. I have to take mine back for the eighth visit to get this **** wobble fixed. I ended up calling chrysler bc the dealer I bought it from was of NO help. Actually chrysler tried to blame me for this process taking so long because I had 'many' resources at my disposal. They have terrible customer service. The new dealer I took it to did the new transmission TSB update- it shifts much smoother- but I'm just not thrilled with how it shifts. Too many gears IMO. But the update did not fix my wobble. I want this issue TAKEN CARE OF!!!! So fed up!

I had multiple problems with my first Cherokee. I also had a dealership/service manager that insisted that my vehicle be replaced as he did not want to **** with it anymore. He knew there was a problem that could not be corrected. What you need to do is if you have not been made a "Star Case" ( which is actually just customer care reading from a script ), call them and tell them you want a call from Level Two Legal within 72 hours or you will be seeking an Attorney. You will most likely get a call from ISG, which is a third party working directly for Chrysler that handles all there buybacks. My replacement did not cost me one cent, nada, zilch. If you choose to get more than what you have than you will be responsible for the difference plus tax. Also being it is years end for the 14's, you could opt to order a 15 model year at no extra cost with the same options even if there were a price increase. I chose not to wait and located one nearby my dealership where they did business dealer trading all the time. It took me 4 1/2 weeks from the last time my first one went into be fixed till I got my replacement. Just be persistent and firm and you will get things done.

I had the same problem as a few people. Multiple problems parts aren't in stock and extreme wait times on parts etc. I went straight to the dealership and said look I just bought this thing and it has been in the shop 4 times in the last 2 months and you still cannot fix the problems. I want a new Cherokee. They worked with me and I was able to get a Cherokee with more options for just $1100 more. I also made a call to Jeep customer care and they weren't much help so when they called back for the follow up I let them know how displeased I was. I now have a new Cherokee with the added care plus package 5 years 60000 miles and a few free oil changes. As another member said Jeep knows there are problem vehicles out there you just have to jump on them and make them do something about it. I looked into the lemon law and that seems like a huge headache and the dealer buy back could take time as well but talk to your dealer and call Jeep they should make it right with you.

Six months of agony has finally come to an end! I finally surrendered my Jeep and it feels like the burden has finally been lifted off my shoulders. Chrysler has made this experience painstakingly difficult from day one, even up til yesterday when signing the surrender paper work, but its done and over with. Time to move on to something else :)

Been there, done that !!! It was a sad moment but I guess it was also a wise move to trade in my KL ! I took advantage of Toyota's great incentives and got myself into a Prius. Yes, I know many will be surprised for the radical change, but at this point in time, I was looking for economy rather than performance. Prius has been around for quite a long time and right now, between the incentives and the extra perks that accompany the car, it made more sense to trade my KL in. After three software updates, the last one being unknown to mostly everybody here, the transmission was still behaving in the same way. Time is money, and before things get worse, I decided to let it go.
I cannot say that it was a bad time, but it was an uncertain one. Driving everyday and reading all the experiences with the transmissions made me think towards something more "secure". All car manufacturers have recalls, I know that, but after reading many comments here, I concluded that Jeep is too proud to accept that they might have made a mistake with those transmissions. Firing the main engineer might have solved their problems, not ours. I do not have time to go over a long and upsetting process of lemon law and the back and forth it includes.
It's been a pleasure talking to you guys and I honestly believe that the transmission problems will be resolved for once by Jeep. Take care !

Make sure they change out your TCM! I think it was "Fumbler" here on the forum that had his transmission AND TCM replaced and that fixed it! The TCM is the brains of the transmission.

I have had my V6 4X4 Limited to the dealer for rough shifting and wobble. I had TSB 21-18-14 done which did not fix the wobble.

Last week I received a call from Chrysler about the results of the TSB. I was told they are doing a survey of specific questions that were put together by their engineers. I was told that they know of many problems with the TSB and they are calling people that have had the TSB done.

Anyone else receive such a call?

Which is the reason why, after my 2013 wrangler unlimited Moab was totalled last month in a head on accident I went right back into a 2014 unlimited rubicon. I test drove a 2014 trailhawk. I liked it. But I came back to this forum and read the latest and said no thanks to the Cherokee. I know the wrangler works. So sticking with what works. What you Cherokee owners are going through is ridiculous. I certainly hope for the credibility of the brand jeep figures this out. Unbelievable.

Yes they split out the Technology Package. Now you have the Tech. Package for about $1300.00 and the Safety Tech Package for about $995.00. The Safety Tech is the mirrors (heated, lamp, signal indicators, and can fold them with the door controls), backup up crash sensor, the sensor for drifting into another lane, and the cross lane sensor.
