Trailer battery charging?

I think this is a total newb question but I couldn't find a definite answer online.

When my Jeep is connected to my travel trailer with the 7 pin connector and motor running, does it charge the trailer battery? Also when it's connected and motor not running, does it use/can it drain the car's battery?

My assumption is yes to both questions but I want to make sure, thanks!

One of the pins in the 7 way connector is for a constant 12v supply, that the trailer would use to charge the battery. It should definitely be hot while the vehicle is running, it shouldn't have any power while the vehicle is off, but that could depend on the vehicle and I haven't checked on the cherokee yet, my previous truck only had power there while the engine was running. I'll have to try and remember to throw my test plug in when I get home to be able to give you a full answer.

I can confirm the charge line is hot at all times.

I wonder why they build cherokees like that. There must be an explanation for it.
