Yea, deep cycle batteries typically don't do well starting engines. Newer batteries like the yellow top optima or batteries like mine do really well as dual purpose batteries. But you pay a small fortune for them. If I had the room I likely would have gone 6v myself but due to weight restrictions I went this route.

Dang, I'm wrong on this.

Saw another post where @Len1304 stated, "I can confirm the charge line is hot at all times." So I went out with a voltmeter to check and he is correct. This is on a 2015 North American factory installed Trailer Tow Group. The brake lights also work with the ignition off (e.g. the emergency flashers work through to the trailer lights when the ignition is off).
