Speaking of uhaul trailers. I need your advice. I am moving from Ontario to British Columbia. It is a long distance. Moving campanies charge a lot. About 4342km/2716 miles, one way. I got 2016 TH with tow package. I have never towed anything with it yet. I will sell most of the stuff at home and will take only small valuable items for me. I am thinking of smallest size (5x8) or one size bigger uhaul trailer.

My questios:
-am I crazy?
-break-in tow milage?
-Is it reasonable to tow such long distance? Stress on transmission and the car.
-should I get smallest trailer to reduce weight, maybe 5x8.
-other things to consider?

Thanks for your time and help.

You'll be fine. For the first 500 miles of towing you aren't suppose to tow over 50 or 55 mph and you have to fluctuate your speed. Don't stay at any one speed for too long. Personally I threw those recommendations right out the window and drove it like I stole it. I could recommend you limit your top speed to 65mph. Any more than that and you drastically reduce fuel mileage.

Get the smallest trailer you need and pack it tight. Heaviest stuff up front. You still of course have plenty of room in the jeep for stuff too.

Towed a 5'x9' open cargo Uhaul trailer today to haul some gravel. Bought a 3 1/4" drop ball mount kit and found it was still about 1 or 2 inches to high for the trailer to ride flat or slightly lower in front. Afterwards I bought a 5 1/4" drop ball mount for future Uhaul trailer towing as I know I will be renting the smaller trailers in the future. My Trailhawk has the OEM receiver mounting point and stock suspension / stock size tires.

So The 5 1/4" drop ball mount worked perfect for me but the problem I have is with the Ball mount sitting flush in the receiver in my jeep. For some reason it can move up and down and side to side and this pretty much beat the ball mount to death for the short distance I had to use the trailer. I was terrified to drive over 50 and I don't want to tow again until I figure out what is going on. I'll try to upload a video later to explain better

Upload the video, let us see what you are talking about. Uhaul trailers move around a lot and are very noisy to tow. I personally use a hitch silencer to eliminate the movement completely.

Did you get a 2" ball on your ball mount or a 1 7/8" ball? If you got the 1 7/8" ball there's a lot of play in the connection.

I hope you did not get a 1 1/4" hitch ball mount....we have 2" receivers!

There's a little bit of normal slop in the draw-bar/receiver tubes (which can be mitigated by various shims). There shouldn't remotely be enough to cause any noticeable damage to any part of the hitch system.

Did you get a 1-1/4" draw-bar (removable hitch piece), not a 2"?

I have a 2" reciever and a 2" ball but the amount of slip seems to be my problem like Rojhan mentioned. Whats the best way for me to upload a video on here?

Posting to YouTube then submitting a link. If you use Tapatalk you can upload directly from the app.

If you have a 1 1/4" in ball mount the hitch pins for a 2" receiver wouldn't even come close to fitting. A 1 1/4" ball mount would be clear as day that it's too small.
