Tow - Trailer Hitch Install Experience

Hi all - I researched pretty heavily on this site for what to expect when getting the tow hitch installed at Jeep. It's currently being done, but I've been hitting bumps.

For one, they've been working on it for 5 hours as of now. Additionally, I was just notified that my TH's rear fender flare needs to be repurchased because it's only meant to be "installed once, and not removed". I've expressed that, while patient, all research into the work should have been around 2-3 hours - and that in no place did I read about adjustments to the fender flare. The rep simply signed and offered me a discount. But it's a discount on something I didn't want/need.

Curious to know your experience your tow hitch install, because this whole thing seems shystee enough for me to reach out to FCA/Jeep customer service.

Thanks.

IF you are getting the wiring done, it can take a while, but just for the hitch, it shouldn't take 5 hours.
I had mine installed along with the wiring at the dealership, and although it took them all day, I only had to pay for a bezel they place around the hole they cut in your bumper. I didn't have to buy any parts other than:

-hitch
-wiring harness
-plastic beze

Dealer is wrong on the flairs. Rear bumper comes off all the time. On my 2014 it took my dealer 7 hours to install the hitch because they had never done it before. The wiring is a nightmare.

Whomever is doing the install is not competent. I did the hitch mount and wiring in less than 5 hours in my garage and reused the fender flares.

You're being lied to about the fender flares. ask to speak to a service manager, you're being charged for something that the mechanic broke while installing your hitch.

The instructions tell you to reuse the old piece, all you have to replace is the two sided tape. They must of broke it when they pulled it off.

I had my hitch installed at my Jeep dealership back in February. Took 4.5 hours and it looks like it was factory installed. Excellent job on their part. No broken parts or issues, as far as they told me.

Thank you all

Seriously, this is why I love this forum. I've never been part of forum that was filled with individuals as passionate and generous with information.

The wiring is also being installed as well, so that'll explain the hours. The flare thing is upsetting though, largely because it hints at level of knowledge the tech working on it might (and not) have on body work. Increasing the possibility of rattles or shakes on the hitch.

Thank you all again for the information!

Don't let them charge you for the flares.

Out of curiosity as my Latitude didn't come with the trailer hitch so I asked about the cost of installing a hitch---I was told 6 hours labor with the harness and 3 hours labor without the harness. I probably won't do it as my TH has the factory tow package and I never use it, (do have a utility trailer I may use sometime) but do like what you get with the tow package, but this came down to the heated seats or the tow package from two different dealers and the one with heated seats was what the wife said we were getting. (same MSRP and the dealer with the heated seats was 5000 dollars less on the trade than the tow package dealer)

I think the hitch and harness was going to be way up there --maybe 800 dollars and without the harness it was just over 500---like I said, mainly out of curiosity is why I inquired about it.
