Boat ramp?

I have a 2016 TH and am looking at a boat now. Want to pull near the 4500 pound limit. Never going far so that is not my concern. My concern is the weight of the TH and how it will handle itself on the boat launches. I am used to a truck and no issues, but is the TH too light for this sort of work? The boat launches here are not neat and nice. My options are to have the dealer put on a hitch or trade the TH in for a pick up.

If you TH didn't come with the Tow Package from the factory, you are not allowed to tow 4,500 pounds. You are limited to 2,000 with an after the fact installation.

MKR is correct. You are legally limited to only 2000lbs of towing capacity on ANY towing option installed after the fact.

Depending on the ramp and angle however a factory equipped TH should be able to handle it if you put it in sport mode that'll lock the 4wd on or worst case you can use 4lo in sport mode also to climb that ramp. The TH weighs 4050lbs from the factory without fuel, people or cargo.

I've been towing my Jet boat (3000lbs ) since Ive owned the TH , Only issue I've had is ground clearance , i.e. not getting in the river far enough to get enough depth to launch the boat , I've recently installed the Hazard sky lift for this very reason . As for boat launches themselves , well Ive launched from just Goat trails that lead down to the river , Not actual launches /ramps as such.

You'll have no problem getting in and out of the water with it , Just need the depth close in .

I have been assured by the dealer that since it's a six cylinder, they can put on a hitch and it's rated to 4500 lbs. Will do that. Miss my truck but like this vehicle.

Now why is the dealer saying 4500 lbs while some here are sure it's 2000 lbs. maybe because it's a 2016?

It will not. The dealer is wrong. We've got an FCA rep on the forum who will verify directly from jeep that a dealer installed hitch will not grant you 4500lbs of legal towing capacity.

Okay so this is a weird spot then. When I bought it the salesman said they can throw on a hitch to 4500 lbs and just confirmed today with the parts person at the dealer that yup, it's to 4500 lbs because it's a six cylinder. Now I feel the need to email Jeep directly to get their version.

Here. This is directly from the owners manual. As you can see they are wrong. This HITCH is rated for it, however the Cherokee isn't. This has been discussed and argued over and over again on this forum. We put an end to it when both the manual and our FCA rep said no it can't be added after the fact and get 4500lb. Could you, probably but legally no and you risk voiding the warranty for towing over the limit. If for example you are towing your boat and you get into an accident if the insurance company finds out you were towing beyond the limit of your Cherokee they can deny your entire claim.

It's not just because it's a v6. We've been told the tow package comes with larger coolers and with the tow package you get a different gear ratio. None of which you get without the tow package. The TH adds back some of the cooling but not all of it and you wouldn't have the gearing either.

The final conclusion was yes, you could add it but no matter what way you slice it the limit will only be 2000lbs for 2016 and older cherokees. The only exception is 2017s which can be ordered with the trailer prep package which means the Cherokee has everything except the hitch and wiring. However this is only available on 2017s and since you said you have a 2016 this isn't the case. It's possible your sales guy misunderstood. We've gotten many reports of dealers and parts departments claiming you'll have a limit of 4500lbs but it simply isn't true.
