Blue Ox Base Plate and Ready Brute Elite

I realize this is an older thread, but stumbled on it when looking for answers regarding using the Blue Ox base plates as a proxy for recovery hookd since the red ones are forfeit. Got my Blue Ox base plates today and it appears no issue. I have some "substantial" Clevis loops that will attach on these if I ever get that stuck and they are so stout you would have to remove the frame before they break.

Anyway, on to the topic. I went with the NSA Ready Brute....it is an 8K all-terrain towbar and has the surge brake installed. I bought the Blue Ox Diode light system, and the dealer (after I whined about a service issue) installed my tow harness (the wobble switch LOL) for free.

My towbar will be here this week and as soon as the weather warms enough to get the Miata out of the shop, I will start tearing the front end off the Jeep to make the install. I am getting pumped and want to take my time and do it right. Lots of Youtube mileage on the install, so should go smooth. Only concern is the 30mm nut on the tow hooks, hoping my 30mm impact socket will do it....otherwise have to buy another single use tool if I can't borrow one.

Can't wait to see how it tows behind my GrayHawk (hey....Gray Hawk...Trail Hawk....I must be a birdbrain).

How is your baseplate install going?
I just completed ours, super easy DIY.

If you haven't upgraded your head/fog lights NOW is the time, another super easy DIY.
I installed LED headlights... a really BAD idea! Now I have the NOT so easy HID install to look forward to.

We just had our 2017 TrailHawk configured as a TOAD (March 13, 2017) . Base plates are Roadmaster-4 and towbar is a Demco Commander. Braking system is SMI's Stay-in-Play Duo. Ballew's Hitch, Truck & RV, located in Tacoma, WA, did the work for us with a 1-day turn-around on the Jeep mods plus a few hours next day on the motor home. Being older and less agile, we appreciate that the towbar only weighs 41 pounds. Our RV is a Forest River SunSeeker 2700 which tows the TrailHawk quite literally like it wasn't there. We chose Ballew's Hitch to do the installation because: 1) They warranty their work for as long as we own our Jeep, 2) They underbid Camping World by $400, 3) My wife wouldn't permit me take apart "HER" new Jeep to do the installs myself, and 4) Ballew's was recommended by our dealer, Look Larson Jeep. We picked up a full-time rear camera last fall that we're going to install on the SunSeeker so my wife can keep tabs on her TOAD. Otherwise, I don't even see it in the rear view mirrors unless we're in a turn. All-in-all, we are very happy with the work that Ballew's has done on our Jeep!
