Question Exhaust system regeneration

My KL is a 2014 Limited diesel and now and then the exhaust regeneration system kicks in, which is what it should do. However, everytime it does I can really smell exhaust fumes in the cabin. I do know it is during the process because whenever I get the smell I go into the EVIC under the Stop/Start menu and can see the following message:

Stop/Start
Unavailable
Exhaust System
Regeneration
in Process

Fumes never, ever enters the cabin at other times. Anyone els with a diese that have experienced this?
Besides this I love the car, no tranny issues, I have seen the 9th gear,I have tried it off-road during the Jeep Academy so I know its capabilities. It is just great!

You are right, that smell should not come into the cabin. Except You are driving in reverse gear. I heared same story one time before, must be in our German forum. As I remember, a leaking gasket caused the problem and had to be replaced.

Hello
I'm also driving here in paris a KL Cherokee Limited 170. And I'm too very upset by the burned fuel smells that enters into the car (closed windows and roof) when the DPF is in regenerating process. I told to my dealer, but as FCA sold only 800 cars for France in 2014, he never heard of this before; and I think he thought I was paranoid and not serious in my story telling.
Fortuneltly we're at least 2 guys in Europe encountering this problem. I've got 3 DPF regenerations during the 10000 driven kms.

Hi Naxos65,

My Uncle is having the same problem with fumes in the cab when exhaust regeneration is in progress - did you find out what the cause of the problem was?

It would be helpful to know.

Hi have a KL diesel and haven't experienced any issues with smells as explained. I noticed while re gen I I shut the motor off and it appeared to continue running ( not the motor). I went out side a few minutes later and it was shut off.
So far the only thing I notice is the it ideals different while is carrying out the re gen.

Yes, if you shut off the engine while regeneration is in progress, cooling vents start to blow for a few minutes. That is a normal operation.
