Tailgate Recall

Has anyone had a letter through yet advising of a Cherokee recall , something to do with the tailgate?

I have not had anything yet but when I looked on "my Jeep" it advised my Cherokee was the subject of a recall and the dealer said it was not major but related to the tailgate and letters were being sent out.

If it's the same thing as here in the US, it's not a 'recall' but a service bulletin. The motor for the lift gate ahs a chance of getting wet and shorting. The service bulleting lists needed parts and how to inspect/fix the liftgate. Search around on here and you should find more info. I know a lot have had it done, but don't recall anyone actually saying their showed signs of wet/corrosion when inspected or actually shorting etc....

Thanks for the info, I have read the threads. What I find surprising is that if it's been known for so long and I only picked up my new car 3 weeks ago, then why was the modification not done before delivery to me while it was still in Jeeps inventory?

I had a recall letter and my dealer said they had performed it during my Cherokee's first service, however FCA say that it hasn't been performed as the dealer hasn't submitted an invoice. In short, book it in with your dealer and ask for proof it has been done, otherwise it'll end up like mine with no idea if it has or hasn't.
(When I queried if it had been done with the service manager, he said yes as it's just a software update, so that indicates it hasn't been done as its a part replacement/install and not a software update).

I have not actually had my letter yet.
I have looked at some of the threads on this forum and found a pdf file that shows all the work that may need to be done and the very last item was to remove a rubber plug from near the LHS tailgate lifting strut and replace with a bolt.
This has been done on mine so I am not sure if this indicates the work has been done potentially while it was still in Jeep inventory in the USA.

There is two recalls, R27 was the first that replaced that rubber plug and fitted a cover to the controlling computer, then the recent one is R67 that seals the wiring harness entry point above the lift motor and provides a larger shield over the controller.
