Yes stops chime, and definitely another reason I do it is to disable ESS!

I personally think seatbelts are a very good thing...and would never disable the chime since my fiancee does the same thing @tiger505 does...buckle up after a few minutes of driving...I have no idea why...and everyone in my car will buckle up up since it's my car

But this is different than say texting and driving or drunk driving, as you not wearing your seatbelt doesn't affect anyone around you (unless your corpse becomes a projectile through the windshield and hits someone else...), so I don't argue with people about it. It's the libertarian streak in me....

Another option is brake to stop, turn key on accessories while still in drive, put in park turn key off. Won't re start.

Don't people get fined for no seat belts in USA?

I get uncomfortable in a car if I don't have a seatbelt on. My dad has always never worn his, I just don't get it I guess.

My car won't start unless everybody has their seat belt on - so it doesn't chime.

I'm 58 and I always wear mine. Sometimes I don't put it on immediately but usually do so before the chime.

The seat belt traps aren't for your safety, they're money makers for traffic court. If you've ever been to traffic court, you would see what I mean. The same goes for so called safety checks where they say they are checking for safety violations but they check for everything includng seat belts, proof of insurance, lighting, drunk driving, etc. 99% of the tickets are for seat belts and insurance. They might catch 1 over the legal limit driver each time they throw one up.

One other question, does this work for the passenger seat too? I have a dog who often sits in the passenger seat and sometimes sets off the passenger seat belt chime.

I'll be disabling the chime on ours too, we have a 1/4 mile long driveway, we drive the kids to the bus when the weather is bad. I don't put my belt on for that. I don't need a reminder the rest of the time, we don't forget. Plus, if the Cherokee is like the GC, the red light will still be on, can't miss it.

But what do I know? I'm just a "Nobobody on a forum!"

First off I always wear my seat belt with normal driving but there are times where the chime is just TOO MUCH pulling Jeep out of the garage for a bath, driving though camp grounds at 5KM to get water or fire wood, boat launch, crawling down trails, driving on frozen lakes all situations where seat belts are not required.
I did this with my 2008 Patriot & my Cherokee but be warned dealerships will turn it back on when in for service or maintenance and they are not allowed to disable a safety feature here in the great white north.
