Blacking out chrome emblems

Just a quick how to on blacking out your chrome emblems with plasti-dip.
There are a lot of videos on YouTube I recommend watching a few just so you know what you're getting into.

Some quick points. Don't do this outside. The slightest breeze will cause over spray. Use a mask of some sort. I didn't think it was that big of a deal because it's such a small area. I spent the rest of the night congested & blowing black stuff out of my nose. Use at least 5 coats. The more coats the easier it peels.
Prep and patience are the most important steps for a good finished result. If you start with a turd you'll finish with a painted turd.

1st - Clean the area. I used a alcohol based lense cleaning wipes (used for cleaning glasses and screens) then a micro fiber towel to buff it dry. Use blue painters tape and tape off the area so the emblem is boxed in, leave at least a 3/4" to 1" gap between the emblem and the tape. I should of left a bigger gap.

2nd - Find some paper and cover the rest of the door. I would definitely recommend at least a 4' area be covered to protect from over spray. I used old x-mas wrapping paper. I knew I held onto that for a year for some reason lol.

3rd - Shake the can for a min and Start spraying. Hold the can about 5 - 6" away. Start with just a very light dusting. The 2nd coat will be a little heavier and by the 3rd coat it should be completely cover. Wait 10-15 mins in between coats for the paint to dry. The heavier the paint the longer it takes. BE PATIENT! Put on at least 5 coats. I used 6 and it came out decent. After the last coat put the can down and walk away for an hour so the paint can dry and your not tempted to pick at it or try and remove tape before it's ready.
If you get over spray on the car don't panic. Just wait till it drys and it will buff off with a towel.

4th - After you put your 6 coats on and the paint is COMPLETELY dry you can remove the paper. When you start removing the tape the paint will peel with it so be very careful and go slow. Start in a corner and start peeling, the plasti-dip will start peeling off the body of the car as you pull, when you get around the letters it's should just peel around the letters. You may have to help it a little by pulling in certain directions and angles.
If you're careful and have enough coats it will peel all around the letters and in between them. I had to use a pair of tweezers to remove some paint between the letters, that tiny space between the E's and to get the center of the O to peel out.
Any over spray will buff off with a micro fiber towel.

If I forgot anything please feel free to correct anything I may of missed or didn't include.

awesome write-up, looks great! bookmarked for reference when i tackle this project.

a question: how do you get the paint out of the nooks and crannies between letters, and in the middle of the o's and e's?

I've plasti dipped some emblems on my older truck, but this being newer I'm hesitant. The last project the emblems came out ok. I feel like just buying the emblems themselves, but I don't want to deal with debadging. How did you do the grill?
