No Parts

I went in for an oil change yesterday, to my dealer. I asked if he had any parts in for the lift gate recall. He just laughed. Saying no and that he has not heard a thing about it, he remarked about Jeep being so early on the announcement of a recall, but not having any parts for going on nearly 6 months now. Said he'd call when they get in.

This was my third oil change since owning our KL. Its 13 months old as of yesterday.

Online says parts are available. I suppose they just aren't to the dealerships yet. You can view this this through the Jeep Owners login.

It's a legality thing. Manufacturers are getting grief (deservedly so) for "hiding" defects from the public. So if they'd sat on this recall until the parts were ready, and somebody was injured or killed or otherwise suffered because of this "hidden defect", then FCA would be in hot water.
This way, they can legally say they *did* issue the recall. You, the consumer, now take on legal responsibility for continuing to drive your vehicle with this publicly-announced defect, and FCA is off the hook.FCA's lawyers will just say that you should have parked your Jeep and waited patiently until the parts came available.

I do not think it takes FCA off the hook at all.
It may take them off the hook with the regulators on the recall issue but not the civil part of it.
In the very unlikely event the lift gate or front wipers units burns up causing damage/accident, FCA will be responsible legally to make you whole.

And since I have 2 KLs I get mailed 2 notices now about once a month for every recall that has no parts which is 2 for liftgate and wipers. I can understand sending them once but why keep sending them over and over. Send it once letting us know about it and that there are no parts then send it again once you have the parts.

Legal obligation.

If you don't get it complete, they can point to their records. "We sent him the initial notice on August 1949, and then the secondary notice on September 1949."

I asked my service adviser last week when I was at the dealer and he said they don't expect the new part for the lift gate till December at the earliest, they have to build enough inventory before they start shipping them to dealers. He laughed and said be patient as the recalls continue for the not ready for prime time Cherokee.
