New KL owner question

It seems like many of us have been having issues with our KL's since my purchase of our used 15 Latitude with 22k it's been really reliable . However I see a lot of things with tranny problems, electrical and so forth and was wondering if there is something that is being sent in the mail specific to vin numbers or are members just bringing the vehicles in at random to see if there are software updates , or other unseen issues. I haven't noticed anything other than the occasional goofy shift from going from 5-15mph or so , that doesn't seem to happen any time other than when it's cold .

Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated .

Most of what has been happening are TSB (technical service bulletins.) These are not announced, and they will only be applied to your car if you're reporting issues.

Mandatory things, like Safety Recalls, will be mailed and are mandatory.

As far as I know R01 was the only mandatory transmission action that's occurred. The seemingly regular TSB software updates, are only pushed if you go in with issues.

His: 2015 Cherokee TH: Brilliant Black; V6
Mods: Gobi Rack and Ladder; Interior/Exterior LED upgrade; Xenon-Depot No Resistor HIDs; Hazard Sky Fabrications Lift Kit

Hers: 2015 Renegade Trailhawk: Alpine White; 2.4L

Here is a site for safety recalls--not sure if it shows TSBs http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchSafetyIssues

(EDIT) Here is the Mopar site to check for TSBs or recall I think---- http://recalls.mopar.com/

The only issue I've noticed is that goofy shift early on. I wish I knew what shifts were causing the slight odd shift without a doubt. I almost think I should just being it in with those symptoms and see what happens.

Depending on how long you have had the Cherokee there may be a little AL thats going on. Especially a pre owned one that is now adjusting to a new driver. AL (adaptive learn) is a continual process the last I heard. Different style driving will cause it to adjust.
Now with that said I will assume that you got the 3/36 and 5 year power train transfered.
Yes, I would take it into the dealer and get an oil change. Have them scan for any codes and run the VIN for any outstanding TSBs. The required ones they will do. The other ones will be depended on what is actually needed.
In my case there were a lot of TSBs under my VIN on my 2014 but only one was required. That was a update on the TCM and PCM. I was not having any issues on the others so they did not do them. As they told me they do not like to update software unless its required or needed because of an issue.
Also I have an early (12/11/13) build Cherokee and have had no issues to speak of. Only one Transmission update has been needed.
Its running great and getting great MPG for a V6.
Good luck

If your concerns are consistent, I 'd recommend bringing it to a certified dealer for diagnosis. Feel free to PM me if you need further assistance. - Kevin T, Social Connect Team

I have a 2015 (built in May 2015) and it has those *goofy shifts* from 2nd to 3rd when cold. It's like a jerk, a slight *bang*, however you'd like to describe it... I've have this condition since I purchased it last summer ; it doesn't always happen, but often enough. I've had no flashes required on mine yet, except for the radio. I'm taking it in tomorrow for the second oil change and I'll see if they have updates/flashes showing up on the computer (they check with my VIN as they prepare the work order).
I don't know what causes the 2-3 jerk when cold, but I haven't complained about it. Yet. I just don't want a tranny flash that will mess with the otherwise very smooth shifting.
I've found a simple way to circumvent the 2-3 jerk when cold : I use the ERS to manually keep the tranny no higher than 2nd gear for 2 blocks. That works for me.
