Fiat Chrysler recalls 323,000 vehicles over wiring issue

sigh. 06/09/2014 build date here. more recalls for my TH than I can count on both hands... wonder how long it will take before I actually get a notice in the mail from Jeep about this, that I can throw on the pile of other recalls I've gotten and not yet had time to deal with...

If they redesigned it in late 2014 to fix the issue why is the recall only announced 18 months later?

"Fiat Chrysler says the problem was discovered by analyzing warranty claims."

id say it took this long to come up with this analysis.

With a 2013 order and early 2014 build (Jan) I assume I'll be getting some more paper to add to the stack as well....

I wonder what "late 2014" means. Mine is a 10/14 build. My Jeep.com dashboard shows no active recalls, but I'll see whether that continues.

I can see that as a possibility. Also, there are the questions of how to fix it and manufacturing the fix and testing the fix. Fill in the blanks on analysis of how to minimize cost and questions about durability of the fix and labor repair time/complexity conservation, etc. Reminds me of the "Accessory Kit to Enhance Flat Tow Performance" situation.

Here is some more details detailing the recall of Canadian and worldwide Cherokees. Contrary to USA Today's report, it seems to imply that it affects only LATE build 2014s and all 2015s:

The automaker said on Friday it will update software and replace wire harnesses to address the electronic issue that appears in a small number of vehicles. The recall includes 2015 model Chrysler 200 midsize sedans, Ram ProMaster City small vans, Jeep Renegade and Cherokee SUVs and some 2014 Cherokees.

The recall includes about 323,000 vehicles in the U.S., 35,500 in Canada and about 51,000 elsewhere. *

Added info from Fortune.com: http://fortune.com/2016/07/22/fiat-c...recall-wiring/

"Vehicles built after Sept. 23, 2014 aren’t subject to the recall because the company has since changed the harness manufacturing process that caused the problem."
