So I am new to this, I searched through dozens of threads and can't find a specific answer. I recently just purchased a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee for my first car. It has the navigation 8.4 and Mopar package but it has the 6 speaker system in it because there isn't a subwoofer in the cargo. I was wondering that since I already have the navigation could I just go to the dealership and pay the $400 extra and get the 9 speaker system with the subwoofer. I am a huge audiophile since my last car had 2 10 inch subs in the trunk so I like the bass, but I don't want to take up any space in the cargo area. I saw JL audio has a stealth box but I don't want to drop $700 bucks and would rather have it from the manufacturer. I would have just bought the Jeep with it but I got such a good deal on this model I couldn't pass it up. Any advice or ideas from anyone would be awesome! Thanks I appreciate it

@Jmb09 ... this site is dedicated to the 2014+ Jeep Cherokee KL model, however to answer your question.. you cannot have the dealer add the extra for $400.00. That price is only for the build. If it didn't come with it, then you will have to fork up the cash. If you insist of upgrading your speakers, do it elsewhere besides the dealership.

This is a Jeep Cherokee specific forum, so you might have trouble getting Grand Cherokee specific answers. That said, no you won't be able to go to the dealer after the fact and get the upgraded audio for $400, as that is a factory installed option only. If you're going to spend the money I'd suggest just getting a solid aftermarket setup and having it installed by a good shop. It'll be a bit more expensive, but you can definitely get a decent setup for under $1K.

I don't want to be mean but I don't think you should be referring to yourself as a huge audiophile. Having 2 10" subs and not wanting to spend $700 on a stealth box does not help. Sorry, I had to say it.

Now for helpful information. In my opinion, aftermarket audio will be better than anything the dealership can offer you. You already have 6 speakers, I would suggest making the most out of that by upgrading what you already have. More speakers doesn't always mean better sound. You can get great soundstage from just a set of components (tweeters and a mid-driver speaker). Those would be your front 4 speakers. Your rear 2 speakers are really just there so passengers in the backseats can hear it as well. As for bass, some quality 8" subs under driver and/or passenger seat should give some nice, tight bass. You will need amps to power these. With the setup I described, I would recommend a 4 channel for the front 4 speakers and another amp for the subs. Don't worry about the 2 rear speakers.

From what you posted however, it sounds like you just want bass. One suggestion would be to put a 12" sub where the spare tire goes under the trunk cover. If I think of anything else, I'll post it up.
