My Wife has only had her ADII limited for a week and we have only tried it once in a relatively mild offroad situation. Soon I hope to test it in a more strenuous outing.
Having said that the ADII gives you more ground clearance. When you talk about towing a larger trailer is that towing going to be done while going down some rather rough roads? If that was the case I would go for the ADII. From the limited time spent so far the low range does give you more precise control in offroad situations, i'm talking from a throttle perspective. When traction between the axles is different and the Brake Lock differentials kick in, when not in the low range mode it does take a decent amount of throttle to navigate through the obstacle.
I have no doubt an ADI Cherokee could go down a rough dirt road providing ground clearance is not an issue. You can also add skid plates bought through mopar.
My wife originally wanted a trailhawk, however she was sold on the luxury package with the ventilated seats and HID lights. I will be adding trailhawk rims and skidplates in the next few months, obviously it will still lack the locker and the different bumpers but still be quite capable.
Obviously the trailhawk is the offroad king but I think a lot of people might be writing off the non trailhawk models offroad, and I don't think that is the case, I guess time will tell when more people start to get their Cherokees.
I have no measurements to back it up yet but obviously the front bumper approach angles are considerably less than the trailhawks. The rear bumper doesn't look as bad on the non trailhawk models.
Journeyman I'd love to see those videos as I don't recall seeing those ones (and I've watched lots)
