No Spare???

Just curious if anybody else go this line of bull from the dealer.
"No compact spare cause nobody ever uses them. We get trades in here everyday with the compact spare all dry rotted. Just call Chrysler Roadside Assistance." :dodgy:
Huh? How much could they really be saving by not installing the compact spare? I would sure like to know that my wife had one if she were to ever need it. We have AAA too, but to sit and wait for emergency assistance could be a problem sometimes.

My dealer told me that alot more companies are not including spares unless it's 4WD. Without the extra weight they're able to claim better gas mileage. I had to pay for mine but my dealer sold it to me at their cost. Alot of cars are just coming with a can of fix a flat. I think it's ridiculous. Hopefully dealers know this so no one gets a flat and then realizes there's no spare when it's too late.

Well at least ours has a little air compressor to plug in to the outlets. But if the tire is punctured or some other physical problem, this won't do much good.

I'm gonna put a plug kit in there with the compressor. I can do that myself in an emergency, but my wife wouldn't have a clue.

How much was the spare at your dealer's cost? Maybe I'll go down and plead poverty and they'll throw me one. I've been buy/leasing from this dealer for over 20 yrs.

Same here John.
There's way too much crap sitting on the highways now a days. I don't think a spare should be optional.

yeah, this is pretty normal these days, buddy was looking at X5's for his wife and ruled it out due to no spare

I think BMWs come with run-flat tires (RFTs) though, which would at least give some type of backup in case of a flat. Having no spare with normal tires is too risky for me.

RFTs are known for poor ride quality but might actually be a nice thing if the wife gets a flat at night on a rural road or highway and she's not comfortable doing a wheel change.

"I've only used my insurance once in....."

What kind of heartache would you have been in if you didn't have a spare on those two occasions?

Always have either had cars with a spare, or runflats!

Spare tyre for me is not a option......kinda ludicrous not including a space on a "off road" vehicle....even if its a dirt trail!

Well, to be fair, the off-road version of the Cherokee (Trailhawk) comes with a full-size spare.

I agree that all cars should at least come with a donut spare, though.

My wife ordered the compact spare with her FWD limited, cost $195. She said even if we never use it she just feels better having one. I sometimes use the spare if I decide I want to rotate the tires. I usually go to a tire store (won't mention them so as not to look like an advertisement) for oil changes they give free tire rotation with oil change so don't have to rotate that often. It's when my wife takes the vehicle to the dealership for an oil change that I need to rotate the tires since I won't pay $24.95 for the tires to be rotated.

Getting rid of 50 lbs of dead weight in the trunk helps the MPG, and with the CAFE standards tightening the spares were one of the first things to go. My CTS had a big old subwoofer where the spare tire should have been, along with an air compressor and fix-a-flat. Anything that needs more than that combo, you were calling On-Star.

I had run-flats on my Corvette, and one of the first things I did was get rid of them because they didn't handle for crap. Never added a spare, for obvious reasons.

Honestly, I doubt most people in this day and age would even put on a spare tire themselves.

My Limited came with a spare...no charge, not even listed on the sticker. Salesman said that Gubment Motors started this a while back. I wasn't sure my car had a spare until I popped the cargo cover.

May never need it but I'm glad it's there.

My Limited came standard with a full-size spare, though a different brand than the other 4 tires. I've asked my dealer to swap the spare for one of the same brand. A full-size spare is preferable to the other options, in my opinion, even with the loss of some storage.

As far as I know (darn thing isn't here yet), our North is coming with a full size spare because we got the tow package.
Will miss having a real spare though, I think doing a 5 tire rotation on our Wrangler definitely helped with our tire wear.
Hmm, I wonder what an extra rim would cost so we could do a 5 tire rotation ;)

Was just checking this on-line brochure and it mentions a compact spare for the Limited and a full size for the Trailhawk. No mention of either for the Sport or Latitude.

http://www.jeep.com/en/2014/cherokee/brochure.pdf

Just checked and our Latitude came with a compact spare and the storage tray. Checked the window sticker and no mention of the spare included or extra.

Are there Latitude owners that didn't get a spare?

i think some has no spare. i have a 2013 optima like that. it has a pump and fix a flat thing. would do nothing if tire gets wrecked only for leaks. not many have tires go flat from a small leak since cars have tpms for the past decade plus. i dont like not having a spare.

My Limited is coming with a full size spare due to the trailer tow group. One dealer explained it as "Jeep doesn't want you without one when you are towing, that's why the full sized comes with the tow group"

Every Cherokee I looked at had a spare, quite honestly, I really liked the storage compartments that come with the compact spare, but I'll take a full size for when I need it any day....

The compact spare was included in the build of my Cherokee Limited. Sure glad its there. My 2011 Porsche Spyder does not have one and I am always a little concerned on long drives.

Well that makes the 4x4 option a little cheaper, as I would have bought the spare!

That's pretty cool. Where'd you find that info, didnt see it in the manual.
