Advice Needed on Cherokee Purchase

Hello All,

I am in the midst of purchasing a new 2015 Cherokee. The dealer did not have the one I wanted in stock but has made a dealer trade for the one I am interested in. Specifically this one. http://www.adventurecjd.com/new/Jeep...c5f4d3b916.htm

I have a few questions:

1. How good is the Jeep Active Drive I? I live in western Pennsylvania and will use it to commute to work, but also would like to take it on open fields, through some mud. Not through deep rivers, heavy rocks, etc.

2. I heard about the transmission problems. The dealer says that has since been fixed. I'm still a little concerned though and may purchase a 2016 to be safe. Should I just get a 2016 or is there enough confidence that this issue has been fixed with the flashing ?

3. I am also considering a Subaru Forester 2.0XT Touring. Any thoughts about how they compare?

I'd sugest test driving both a few times. If you decide on the Jeep, Order a 2016 exactly the way you want it.
Array and TedB like this.

2015 Cherokee Trailhawk:
Granite Crystal, 3.2L V6, Tow pack, Tech pack, 8.4 Nav, black leather vent. seats, sunroof, comfort/conv, 9 speakers, Maximum Care lifetime warranty.

While some transmission problems have clearly been identified with the Cherokee, they are by far and away in the vast minority. That said, you might want to add some protection for your investment by getting an extended warranty for as long as you anticipate you will own your KL. (For me and mine, we plan of keeping it a long time, and added the lifetime warranty).

As mentioned above, you would certainly want to test drive the vehicle to see if it checks out before you sign on the dotted line...

All in all, in my humble opinion, you can't go wrong with the Cherokee...

I have Active Drive 1 on my Cherokee and it has failed to disappoint me. I have been through deep mud, rocks, water, you name it. Yeah it's not a Trailhawk so obviously it has its limits but it sure is more capable than one would think. I have also (knock on wood) had no transmission problems with my Cherokee 32,000 miles into ownership.

AD1 is an excellent driveline.

If you are interested in more ground clearance for those open fields and deep snow, then consider the AD2 option because it includes the off-road suspension but rides just as good on the highway.

If you think there may be a time you want some serious off-road fun, then go with the TrailHawk with the locker and hooks and skid plates, etc.

I ended up getting the Cherokee. I had to travel to Cleveland from Pittsburgh to get the one I wanted. It's a 2015 in granite and black interior with the V6, Moonroof, SafetyTec, Luxury Group, and Uconnect. The discount I got, on top of the rebates, was too good to pass up compared to ordering a new 2016 (I would have probably added the better speakers and tow package).

Coming from a 2006 Chevy HHR, it is certainly an upgrade. I will probably post a detailed review, but I chose the Cherokee over the other finalists: the Audi Q3, Mercedes GLA, BMW X1, and Subaru Outback. All of the ones I mentioned were certainly great, but really did not live up to what the Cherokee offered.

Congrats, you'll love it. I was almost out the door with a '16 Altitude V6 4x4 when they made me a GREAT deal on the '15 TH.

I had a similar dilemma prior to purchasing my 2016--I heard so much about the issues with 2014-15 and since the incentives were very close I opted for the 2016. I've only had mine 2 weeks and about 1,000 miles with no issues so far. I do feel the wheel wobble that many have experienced and will get that resolved in the coming weeks.

Good luck with your research and final choice.
