Trip scare

So I was on a long trip to BC and back to Alberta, which ended up being 2 trips to BC from Alberta which was a total of 5500 KM.

Anyways, getting to the point, Ill be getting new tires next time I go out there for a visit since I assume the tires I have now have 64,000 KM on them (all season from the factory) and ended up in the ditch while going 40km/hr on a straight stretch. I'll add a picture as an attachment. We had 800lbs of cargo in the back aswell and it was my girlfriend and I in the jeep, but with more weight id think that we would have less chances of that happening. It's very comforting to know that 90% of the people who were driving by stopped to offer help and ask if we were ok. To be honest it was getting annoying since we were waiting for a tow truck for about 45 mins but at the same time couldn't be more grateful.

The only damage to the jeep was that the drivers side wheel well was torn from the bottom and was lifted up onto the wheel, but with 2 nuts, washers and bolts it looks ok now, just a little deformed around the top of the fender. Bumper took it like a chance too hitting the snow at 40km.

Will probably get some more aggressive tires since id like to go off-roading eventually as well , but there are only so many aggressive tires for stock rims and no suspension lift and 225 65 17r are pretty much the biggest (that I can see) fitting without hitting the shocks, and without breaking the bank.

Oh gees! I'm Glad that both of you are okay! but with the Canadians temp. you shouldn't keep to "all-season let's say summer with not much rain tires"... i hate them even when i put them back in the summer (QC we have the Winter tires law from 15 dec to 15 march) i'm planning to get new tires on mine... and you can grew up the tires a bit without any consequences to 235/65/17 the only thing it will affect is speed ratio (100 km/h you will go at 102km/h)

there is some nice all-weather tire that you can get in 235-65-17

Glad all is ok and you are safe.
Been there and done that!
Living in the snow belt or any area with long winters/lots of snow, I would invest in a set of mounted winter tires or just AT type tires.
Snow or AT type tires would possibly have helped in your situation. That is avoiding it.
The key word is possibly.
Even 40kmh (25 mph) is too fast in some situations even on straight roads.
All it takes is a slight bump, packed snow/ice on the road, and it does not make any difference on your tire type.
Speed is everything in conditions like snow covered roads.
As I I do now I just watch them fly by me knowing that someday they will be trying off roading in the snow.

Eesh, glad everyone's ok...That's never fun...Winter tires are on my list for next year too...I'm considering some all weathers though too so I don't have to swap off my rims all the time.

You've experienced the nightmare that I've been worried about with my Firestone Destination tires. I'm glad the two of you and your Cherokee survived without any serious problems. The snow here is definitely not like you ran through but I live i the country with a long uphill gravel driveway that turns icy when packed. My previous Grand Cherokee never had any issues anytime anywhere with all-terrain/winter tires so that's what I want to get and probably what you will get. I'm looking at the BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2. It come in the 225/65-17 and 235/65-17 sizes. Elsewhere on the forum here there are some good pics and reviews on them. Good luck finding tires you like. I'm sure our Cherokees will be fantastic with better tires.

Glad you are both ok, and you only had minor damage to your Cherokee. You are indeed lucky you didn't hit something solid in that snow pile and flip the vehicle!
